And unsurprisingly, The season record will not be affected, even one game. They'll still be Jerry's losers. Poor Jerry, he's gone from middle age to really old age with nothing to show for it except filthy rich and I blame that on the fans who keep sending him their cash...which is why Jerry doesn't care about wins and losses.
All I'll say is, I'm not having much trouble with this "down" year in the age of NIL and portal transfers.
I don't say this often and but it's been a while since it was so clear, but Okie literally handed the game to Missouri. Reached out, said "here take it".
Money preserves recruiting classes now to a huge degree. Everything is now money, the highest bidder and how many wealthy donors a school can muster. Doesn't however totally explain Arkansas' predicament. Last I checked they were 9th in NIL spending so far, above Ole Miss which just wiped the floor with them. But money is still a huge factor if spent right. Alabama is 5th. #1 ? Texas, with half again more than Alabama. LSU #2 followed by Georgia, A&M, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma with a pretty good distance then above the rest.
That's pretty much it. It would end well for the rest of their schedule. Cignetti? I don't see him leaving a program he has in the top ten after just one year. Not a popular idea for Gator fans to know Napier will be back, but announcing it now will help stabilize recruiting. NIL money is driving recruiting/portal classes, he might surprise some people. But Cignetti, if that's their dream, won't leave after one season. If he is as successful in a second year, leaving might not be on his mind. Indiana doesn't have a history of great football, but it could be starting now.
I'm enjoying all the melt downs. All "the sky is falling" predictions which are insanely silly.
No matter the outcome against LSU, I still remind myself to keep in touch with reality. If this will be defined as a down year, most all others could only dream of such a thing.
South Carolina would be dominating in the Big 12, likely the ACC.
It seems pretty clear, once again, that the CFP representatives that will come from the Big 12 and the ACC will have a lot of work to do. The Big 12 representative will feel more like the "goodwill" gift to a G5 school. Outside of BYU and Miami, it looks bleak. Finebaum may be right about Vanderbilt. Up until Ole Miss dismantled Arkansas I thought the same about the Hogs. Not any more.
Is it beginning to look like the only history that can be analyzes for coaching now is the short period of NIL and free agency? Seems like there's a big line now, before and after.
There's four potential HC openings in the SEC coming up next month, if money is not a problem. One, Arkansas, has the best chance, likely the only chance, of making a bowl game but will have an interim coach.
Auburn, at least for now, is a top recruiting class. But if the coaching quality is just not there, will Auburn spit the bit on Freeze and hope for the best on the recruits?
It costs money now to get good coaches and players better than G5 level on the whole. They wrote the check for basketball, but football is exponentially more expensive. Lot of schools are going to have to make some tough decisions cause it's turning into a bidding war for professional players and coaches in the NCAA. Old story of the haves and have nots and the gap is growing.
All I remember is a couple decent years with Houston Nutt and the same with Petrino. One is out of football and the other may have seen the game pass him by but it's hard to figure. Petrino collapsed at Louisville, Missouri State was a parking spot for a career and one year under Fisher. With Arkansas it's just hard to say, may not be fair to judge him on this season because the Hogs just can't get the guns they need, not even the O Line which was suppose to be Pittman's specialty. I don't know. But it reminds me a lot of Kentucky over the years when it was so often "welp, basketball is almost here thank goodness". If conferences were all broken up to form a "super" power league, would BB be enough to include them? I certainly wouldn't make a guess. As we all know, football rules.
Kentucky. Missouri fans have said that's their rivalry game more than Arkansas could ever be. It's what their fans would say if you asked them. And over the years that both have been in the SEC, Missouri is far and away the better fit for football as far as being competitive.
Nice soft tune up game before Georgia. And didn't have to pay to play them.
After Texas and Missouri are finished, so will be Pittman. 6-6 in his fifth year shouldn't cut it. Overall losing record, no way he's back. How long can their fans keep saying basketball season is near.
In spite of MSU and Kentucky have bad years, they have a much longer SEC history. And you're right about Okie and Texas making Arkansas even more irrelevant. They never managed to develop a rivalry game or two like even Missouri has been able to do.
I'm not seeing a better candidate for SEC Coach of the Year. Let's see if you can keep the staff together going forward. Gonna be some HC vacancies after December, inside the SEC and outside.
No one thought Auburn would win this game. But it was closer than I had thought it would be.
Maybe the Big 12 has room for one more. Hogs just getting left behind in SEC football. Not being mean, face the facts.
But the bettors must be using recent history for this game. Vandy is playing very good football. Auburn just won their first conference game.
If Hogs beat Ole Miss you'll feel even better. I still don't feel good about the Vandy lost, who could. But that ain't the Vandy we're all use to seeing either.
Oh, and again at the half yard line I'm told..and didn't get in.
It'll be their own fault if they don't. They have a bad Louisiana Tech later.
Well I did too. But seeing the Hogs blown out at home by LSU and seeing MSU in their last two games I thought they were going to grab a home conference win. Easy mistake to make. And the Dogs kept handing them gifts. Not even just the turnovers. I believe Dogs were at the one yard line, didn't score. Let's see what the Hogs do at home against Ole Miss' defense.
Aw yeah, yeah. I misread that. Saw the 3-5 and my mind saw the 8 conference games.
Aw now, you know Missouri has a better than even chance to beat Arkansas in a home game.
