3 takeaways from Vanderbilt’s bowl-clinching victory over Auburn
“He has three more losing seasons to go!”
Not in order for MSU to have 4 losing seasons in a row. We are at 2 in a row now. Obviously not putting all of that on Lebby. He will do ok if he can get a defense, I think. I’ll let you crown AU the worst in the SEC if you want. Not a title I’m fighting for.
Need an edit button. Pasted the wrong quote.
Quote should’ve been “The disrespect for Vandy is real”.
“MSU hasn’t had 4 straight losing seasons, genius.”
That’s pretty much a fact. Teams that are traditionally not so great (no offense meant) generally don’t get the respect they deserve when they are actually good. If I wasn’t so cheap I’d have put money on Vandy today. Congrats.
“MSU hasn’t had 4 straight losing seasons, genius”
Jeff Lebby says “Hold my beer and watch this!”
Yet.
Pretty crazy that Freeze vs Pavia is going to happen 3 times involving 3 different teams. I didn’t know about the Liberty / NM State game.
Good point. I haven’t kept up with WF at all, but those other offenses outside of LSU haven’t done a ton of scoring. S Carolina has been kind of hit or miss. We’ll see tomorrow. Good luck vs LSU.
Well I’m a fan of the opposite school and definitely not an Ole Miss fanboy, but according to a local sports radio talk journalist (who admittedly is a Rebel fanboy), they rank at or near the top in a lot of defensive stats even when you take out the stats in the cupcake games. Haven’t verified that personally because I don’t particularly care that much. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised or even moderately saddened if Arky gave them fits.
That Vandy vs Auburn game should be interesting. When’s the last time you heard that? I’m going to go with Vandy.
MS State vs UMass will be closer than the prediction, I think. Yes, our defense is just that bad this year.
OM vs Arky should be interesting. It’s not unusual for OM to have trouble with the Hogs, and it’s at Fayetteville… OM defense is good, though. The offense seems to have regressed this year in conference play. I figure OM pulls it out, but who knows?
It’s worse than I thought. It’s nonexistent.
I think Arkansas is a little better than they get credit for too.
Can fans enter the transfer portal? I’m hoping to get picked up by Vandy in the portal.
If there is no injury, it's just delay of game that can't be proven. That's deception. If you take a delay of game penalty (or in this case too many men on the field) to your advantage, that's strategy.
I don't see an issue with what Oregon did. They intentionally violated an established rule, received the penalty, and came out better for it. I don't see the difference between what they did and taking a delay of game penalty in order to give the punter more room, or intentionally committing pass interference because the getting the penalty is better than the other team scoring a TD.
Faking injuries is different for a number of reasons. One of which is there is no penalty for it (yet). If there was a penalty, and it was worth doing even with the penalty...go for it. The main thing I hate about it is it makes the games so friggin long.
Should’ve been a flag. Not the end of the world and I doubt it was down with ill will towards the player, but it was an offense that could’ve easily been flagged that happened right in front of the officials. Also it could’ve been a huge issue if the player had retaliated in any way, which thankfully he didn’t.
Would’ve suddenly become a huge deal if MVB had pushed back. Would’ve probably been a huge deal if Lebby had done that to Beck.
A loss is a loss, but Mississippi State seems to be improving week to week and playing with a little more effort. Van Buren isn’t too shabby, especially for a freshman. We got beat worse by Toledo, so obviously there’s been some improvement. Lebby may have a good team in a couple of years. The defense still needs improvements. Wide open GA receivers all night long. Hail State.
Sadly, there probably ain't much to write about our program until something changes and we pull an upset. And that might not even happen this year. The TX game, while obviously a loss and could've been a much bigger loss if TX hadn't made some mistakes, the players did seem to play with a little more fire. But that's not a real interesting subject for an article.
I think the game at SC has been considered a must win game for them from the start of the season. I doubt they'd be in playoff contention with any more than 2 losses. The two teams on the schedule that you'd expect to beat them are GA and possibly LSU. I imagine they're looking at every other game outside of those two as a "must win" from the time they first looked at thier schedule. With the loss to KY, realstically that LSU game is now a must win game too.
Did you guys watch MSU play Toledo? 'Twas rough. That said, I hope your pessimistic Florida predictions are right.
I'm on board with that. The generic cursive "State" reminds of the team in the Dr. Pepper commercials.
I'm going to go ahead and predict FL wins by 20.
If FL wants to fire Napier, they better hurry up. I have a bad feeling we are going to make Billy look good this weekend in Starkville.
We were a favorite against Arizona State. Hell, I'm scared of UMass at this point lol.
You are a good fan. Must've been that lone cowbell I heard ringing occasionally. I'm not going to lie, I turned to the KY vs GA game and tried to forget about it.
I'm not calling for Lebby to be fired. I was never sure about the hire to begin with, but I don't get paid to make those decisions. No sense in starting (or prolonging) a coaching carousel where we never let the coach get his feet under him and move on the next one. I will say, I've watched some bad MSU football, but this has been surprisingly bad. I had us picked as 4-8, possibly as high as 6-6, but we've lost 2 of the games that I thought we'd win already so I think we are looking at 1-11, if that. I do not see us being competitive, much less winning, in SEC play at all this year. My question is, if we do eventually move on from Lebby, how exactly would we proceed? What coach (or players) is going to want to come to an SEC team that gets walloped by Toledo and potentially wins between 0 and 1 or 2 games? It's going to be a long season. If there's no improvement throughout the season or next year, then we can talk about another coach.
Agreed. Sadly.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED??? (Gladiator)
Pretty much could ask the same question for half of the teams that drummed lesser opponents this weekend. Just how good is Auburn, or Alabama, etc.? As an MSU fan, I asked myself the same question after playing a directional Kentucky team. I guess the answer is "they're probably better than if the game had been closer".
I watched the second half of that game and I thought Hunter pushed off a lot too, but it never got called. He even appeared to grab the defeder's shoulder or jersey and toss him backwards to the ground, but it did not get called. There was also a pretty obvious false start when Colorado was on offense that even the TV commentators mentioned that did not get called. It'd be interesting to know how many flags were thrown on Colorado. I honestly can't remember seeing one in the second half, but maybe I missed it. Not a fan of over the top showboating after making a TD or a good tackle, wanna be gangsta players, or teams and players that the media fawns over relentlessly, so I may have some bias.
OK, yeah. I was just about to look up Murray State to see if they are actually supposed to be pretty good.
I think the ceiling for us is 6-6 this year. I'd be happy with a 6 win season in Lebby's first year with that schedule. We might win a game or two against FL, AR, or MO, or we might lose to all 3 of them and ASU. 4-8 isn't a prediction I'd really argue against, but I'm going to say we go 5-7 with one SEC win in a game at home where we play better than expected, get some breaks, and the other team slips up. I'm looking forward to the season and seeing how we look.
It's a tradition. I get that it's annoying...but I like the tradition aspect of it. I don't think cowbells have any bearing one way or another on our "relevancy", whatever that entails. I don't like the screeching eagle thing played over the PA at Southern Miss home games every time they get a first down (or SC's crowing cock), but it's their field so they can do what they wanna do.
