O’Gara: Predicting the first top 12 of the new Playoff format
I agree with you EXCEPT for the number one ranking. I’m not saying Oregon win the natty. Just that they don’t have any games left on their regular season schedule they’re in any particular danger of losing prior to the playoffs.
Every other ranking can and probably will change a couple of times, but there’s no reason for the No. 1 slot to change again barring a VERY bizarre upset.
With so many unbeatens and one loss teams, I'm not convinced ANY two loss SEC team is a lock for the playoffs anymore, even if they should be.
And for clarification if you try to claim it's UT that's "embarrassed" Smart/UGA, again I ask: How?
UGA has won every game since 2016 and 18 of the last 25 games. UT is, by every conceivable metric, the historically weaker team in the so-called "rivalry" between the two.
Uh dude. Even if Tennessee has the better team this year, and that is still yet to be determined, Josh Heupel has never once beaten Kirby Smart.
So in what way has "embarrassed" Georgia thus far?
You have to actually do it a first time before you can manage to do it "again."
As a Georgia fan I agree. I want my dawgs to be the very best. But I want Georgia's SEC rivals to all be better than out of conference schools.
I think he's more saying that Florida lacks the talent to actually capitalize on the opportunity rather than actually disagreeing with your assessment that Georgia will be vulnerable in the first half.
Your sentence didn't contain a single typo or fact error. Therefore, I regret to inform you that you are disqualified from being a SDS writer.
Right? Sometimes the metaphor just writes itself.
In any case, some of the guys on that offense really are fun to watch. I'm not even a 'Dores fan, but I'm enjoying this year's version of them play. Pavia is an absolute beast of a QB.
No dude the website is called “Saturday Down South” as in: southern states.
That means most of the coverage is SEC, but the ACC ALSO has a number of schools in Georgia, the Carolinas, and Florida.
You don’t have to read those stories but they do make up at least some of the traffic on this site,
Diego Pavia has established himself to be more than a mere "flash in the pan" by this point.
He is carrying the *least talented* team in the entire SEC according to recruiting metrics to victory on his back, and he is doing so CONSISTENTLY!
If he were playing at a school that actually recruited for football we would be talking about him as a frontrunner for the Heisman by now.
@Booches94
I believe you. I am becoming more and more convinced that some refs are deliberately cheating to influence the outcome of games. Not two much to hell a “favorite team” specially, but to help themselves now that sports betting is legal for college football.
I’m fine with reversing the call if you don’t take the trash throwing into account. Reversing was correct. It wasn’t a holding.
But BECAUSE OF the trash throwing, they SHOULD have immediately given a separate entirely legitimate penalty to Texas for Unsportsmanlike conduct and delay of game. Spot the ball 15 yards back from the point of recovery.
They still likely would have scored, which is fine. But it would have avoided rewarding the inexcusable behavior from the fans.
As it stands what the refs did instead was an absolute disaster that will endanger players and coaches in totally unrelated future games. THAT should cost them their jobs.
I think the pass-obsession is more a product of Bobo than Beck. He has always had a tendency to fixate on a single play or two and run it over and over and over again. Even as far back is 2007-2008 under Mark Richt.
Right now the SEC Championship is Texas's to lose. My Dawgs have had ONE good game all season and that was against Clemson. If anything they have gotten steadily worse every week since.
Alabama and Tennessee look to be regressing too.
I love the dawgs, but they are NOT a top five team this year. Texas will absolutely take them to the cleaners next week, and that game will never be question.
It's a reference to DeBoer and the philosophy of play-calling he brought with him. You DO know where he was coaching just last year right?
*Hic* Go home 2024 Football season, you're uh...you're dwunk!*hic*
The man is like the h*rpes of the SEC, he travels around, and he never really goes away.
Either Alabama or Georgia will have a strong case to make after tonight, but as much as I hate to say it, that spot belongs to Texas until someone else proves otherwise.
It has everything to do with Mike Bobo who is the worst Offensive Coordinator you'll ever hear of and the strangest hire Smart ever made, especially since Bobo had already been fired from the same position under Richt once before.
UGA has developed a habit of sleepwalking against lesser teams. They don't try as hard, they don't dip into the playbook. They just play worse. Under Todd Monken they could largely get away with it because they would still not be in any particular danger of losing the game even if they still came out of it looking mediocre. Then turn right around and play a good-great team the next week and fully show up as an absolute force.
But Bobo is NOT Monken. He is 'less than' and his play calling makes that sleep walking habit a dangerous one. It's going to cost UGA a game they should have won by 3+ touchdowns sooner or later. It should have just two weeks ago.
The sleep walking needs to stop, or if they think it's some sort of legitimate strategy, then his play calling out of the "easy teams" playbook needs to get a whole lot better.
In fairness you got it right BOTH times. NIL and transfer portal deals are WEIRD and getting weirder. There is a lot of playing AND paying in the future of these three teams.
OK kid. Tell us again how a school that hasn't won a single SEC Championship since the Bush administration is the "King" of the SEC. I'm bored and need a good laugh.
Josh Heupel might well take the Vols there if he keeps his current trajectory, but they're not there yet.
The "hire a Saban disciple" formula has failed FAR more times than it succeeded. In fact, Kirby Smart is arguably the ONLY time it succeeded.
*Vandy not "Sandy"
Since when did this site become anti-SEC?
This was a solid outing for Sandy who was the underdog. The headline and the story should be celebrating them, NOT bemoaning the loss of a team that isn't even even from "Down South"
By "Swinging after the bell" he meant that UGA still played that game like it mattered even though they were ALSO already snubbed from the playoffs. Meanwhile the Seminoles came in throwing a temper tantrum and showed they lacked the emotional maturity and drive to deserve a playoff berth.
I'm honestly hoping for four unbeaten conference champions this year. That way nobody gets claim they were cheated out of a slot. Next year's expanded playoffs will solve a lot of problems.
There is a very good chance that the SEC Championship, as it has many times in the past, will be the REAL National Championship. The CFP isn't likely to take two SEC teams this year, but I haven't seen anything from any of the other top teams that convinces me they are legitimately better than either Alabama or Georgia.
I figured this would be a tight, stressful game to watch and I was right. I REALLY wish Bobo would stop calling the exact same set of plays over and over--1st down run straight up the middle into insane amounts of coverage; 2nd down run straight up the middle again. 3rd down Hail Mary long pass attempt. 4th down punt. Next possession: rinse and repeat.
Our defense needs to shape up too. A LOT.
Mizzou fought hard and it easily could have gone the other way.
