Very well said. Whatever happened to the days when kids stayed in a program and gutted it out, competed as hard as they could, earned respect for their effort and used that to grow up and become young men?
He still is a B.A. My kids loved Goldberg when they were little. We met him once when I took them to a WWE show. A great guy to be sure.
..."and I have an NIL deal worth $1.8 million". Now in fairness to Beck, he doesn't have as good a group of receivers as he did last year, but still......he's lucky Florida's QB went down or UGA could've been in trouble.
Given the "competence" of officials in recent years, one could easily see this "idea" going right down the toilet bowl when they start "punishing" teams and it comes out the kids had legit injuries.
Uh....yes. Don't see that being "applied" to potential CFB playoff contenders, but schools like Miss St. Kentucky and Auburn better watch out. Their coaches will get suspended for kids going down with legit injuries.
How about have a doctor look at the kid and if it's determined there's no injury then the kid sits out a quarter. Of course to make anything official it will have to go through the NCAA. Personally I think Sankey's time would be better spent on cracking down on the poor officiating that has been problematic in the SEC (and college football) this year.
If he's not, then mandatory drug testing for SEC coaches needs to be instituted immediately. Of course it didn't hurt that essentially the heart and soul of the NMSU team that went 10-3 last year "transferred" (players and coaches) to Vandy, but kudos on Lea for going out and getting the talent and coaches he needed to elevate that program.
Nick is having a good ole time. He's earned it and is a great addition to Game Day.
South Carolina is a few points away from being in the driver's seat in the SEC. They looked great tonight. Hope Beamer can build on that to deliver 9-10 win seasons every year. Seems like during his tenure USC takes one bit step forward and then one big step back.
A fine young man and a great example of an "Auburn man". It's a shame his senior year is so disappointing.
Like it or not.....Freeze will be back for 2025, and likely for 2026 as firing him would only make hiring a really good replacement very difficult. At this point all Auburn fans can do is hope that all the talk of great talent (hopefully a QB and an offensive line) are more than just Freeze running his mouth to soothe his ever-growing list of doubters and good times are on the horizon.
....and IMHO will along with the transfer portal will be the death of college football. Time for the NCAA (not that it will happen as the NCAA no longer cares about student athletes, but only the money to be made) to tell the NFL to establish a "D" League (like every other major sport) and get those kids who are only in college to get to the NFL to go to the "D" League and insist that colleges can only recruit kids who can get in on their academic merits.
Freeze will be back for 2025 for sure and likely 2026, as firing him now just scrambles the program for the second time in two years which would make getting a really good coach problematic. The questions that need to be asked are: 1. Was Auburn better off when Allen Greene fired Gus Malzahn at the end of 2020, then they are today? 2. Would Auburn have been better giving Carnell Williams a couple years as head coach to see what he could do?
If you'd have bet money on that 4 months ago in Vegas.....you'd have gotten some big odds for sure and would be quite rich now.
Wrong. The person who thinks Thorne is going to do "great things" is Hugh Freeze and it could end up costing him his job. He's always been on a short leash.
He's not a "terrible" QB. He's just not a very good QB and in the SEC you can win without a "great" QB, but you can't win with a mediocre one who's further hampered by an OC who doesn't understand that for a guy like Thorne to be successful, he needs to have a powerful running game.
If so....if and when the Auburn administration finds out he'll be gone. I hope he's not doing anything remotely like that.
Ten years is a long time. I was never overly impressed with Hugh Freeze. Yes he can recruit. Yes he is or was known as an offensive guru. However, Finebaum's right. Where is the "fire" and the passion? I was one of those who thought AU should've gone with Carnell Williams. He was a good recruiter, but mainly he's a leader and molder of men. When he took over at Auburn at the end of 2022, Auburn was in a bad way. The team was a group of beaten young men. Coach Cadillac picked those young men up off the turf, instilled the Auburn spirit into them (who can forget him preaching "believe and serve"), molded them into Auburn men, and watched them give everything they had on the field and play fearlessly and ferociously. The amazing part was that he was much harder on them than Harsin had ever been, but he loved each and every one of those kids and they knew it. It reminded me of 1981, which was Coach Dye's first year at Auburn.
Freeze should've taken a more active role in bowl preparation for a very important game for AU going forward to build momentum going into next year.
Pruitt is a cancer. Don't believe that? Just ask folks who are familiar with Tennessee's program and what went on there. AU is better off in every way hiring Chip Kelly.
Ron Roberts needs to go. That 4th and 31 at the Iron Bowl was nothing short of abysmal as was the complete inability to set a defensive edge against NMSU, and the inability to hold a 4th quarter lead against UGA or Bama. As for bowl "performance", that was an embarrassment. Time to hire Chip Kelly to be DC.
Obviously Arizona didn't get that memo. The Wildcats were one of the absolute feel good stories this year in College Football. Talk about a bunch that never gives up and finds ways to win. What a turnaround from a couple years ago when they won what....1 game.
Exactly! Alabama or Michigan annihilate FSU....even at Full Strength. After all that whining they did about "being left out" FSU sure showed it's "character" or lack thereof with all those opt-outs. Whatever happened to loyalty? Whatever happened to backing up that B.S. FSU was laying down about how they "belonged in the CFP"? I think they "opted out" because they knew they were going to get shelled by UGA.
Brett might want to cut back on the bong before writing articles. Michigan and Alabama played a great football game. Had FSU tangled with Michigan FSU would taken an epic beating reminiscent of the epic beating they took from UGA in the Orange Bowl.
I hope so. Chiz is a great guy and good coach, but ultimately there are two kinds of coaches....ones who've been fired and ones who are going to get fired. He'd be a major improvement for AU at DC over "what" they currently have.
Hasn't Michigan beaten OSU the last 3 years in a row? Isn't Michigan something like 39-3 over the last three years?
Another group that deserves a lot of recognition for Michigan was their interior D-Line. Those two DT's were dominant and disruptive. That #55 for Michigan is a beast and I suspect half of those bad snaps were due to Alabama's center's focus on him.
Alabama made some really good adjustments at the half, but Michigan just simply was the more physical team and that (at least to me) was a shock. Alabama had some adventures snapping the ball, but Michigan had similar adventures on special teams. Michigan proved that if you can get to Milroe....you can really throw a monkey wrench into his game and Michigan got to him 5 times in the first half alone. Finally, Alabama was susceptible to the run. The Iron Bowl proved that as Auburn ran at will against Alabama. Michigan took full advantage of that. Overall...a great college football game right out of the 1980's. Both teams played really hard.
Bingo! Remember how hard the kids played in 2022, for Coach Cadillac? Makes me think they should've ditched Harsin after the Penn St. game and turned things over to Cadillac. Disclaimer here.....was never in favor of hiring Bryan Harsin in the first place. Thank the thankfully departed Alan Greene for that one. That bowl performance makes me wonder what AU would've gotten had they taken a chance and hired Cadillac. Yes....I know Freeze is a proven commodity and that he's won everywhere he's been, but that bowl game was an embarrassment.
I suspect he will be as his stats need a lot of work to get drafted.
