Texas fans litter endzone with trash after brutal PI call vs. Georgia
Texas fans let their frustrations be known in a major way after the Longhorns were called for an incredibly questionable pass interference penalty in the third quarter of Saturday’s game against No. 5 Georgia.
Defensive back Jahdae Barron picked off a Carson Beck pass and returned it inside the UGA 10. With Texas trailing 23-8, the play had the potential to completely change the complexion of the game. But the interception was wiped away by a pass interference penalty called on Barron.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian became extremely animated on the sideline, but the attention quickly shifted to fans in the far endzone, who started tossing bottles and cans out onto the field.
The game had to be delayed while the trash was cleaned up. Sarkisian walked to the endzone and pleaded with fans to stop. Cheerleaders and Texas staffers quickly went to pick up the trash.

In a stunning turn of events, though, the stoppage worked in the Longhorns’ favor.
While Texas was working to clear the field, officials conferred and eventually decided to wave off the PI call and award Texas possession. That decision led to an outburst from Georgia coach Kirby Smart.
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jaydon Blue 2 plays later to bring the Longhorns within a single score, 23-15.
As one might expect, Twitter lit up after the sequence. Here’s some of the reaction:
Stay classy, Texas. Welcome to the SEC

That call was not so egregious as this ridiculously pro Texas broadcasting team wanted it to be. Really bad look all around.
SEC refs are the dumbest subhumans on the planet
Can’t argue with you about that one especially after watching them hose Kentucky on several occasions this evening. I’m a Gator fan but some of the calls were horrible.
It was a penalty and it’s absolutely wild that the refs overturned it minutes later
Absolutely it was at least a hold.
tu is well known for it’s class.
Oh wow this is getting nasty. That was a clear TD
TD? By who? There was no touchdown on the play, Bobbie. You have a bit too much last night?
I think he was talking in the moment about the run by Etienne.
Worst refs in power 5 one up their own terrible call by giving SEC fans a road map on how to reverse any controversial call. They are so dumb and never think beyond the immediate moment.
To be fair-Sankey sucks and doesn’t set a tone at the top to correct this. So why wouldn’t they be incompetent, there’s no accountability or punishment for being so. His refs behave just like him. Live in the moment and make the decision that makes the right people happy, regardless of whether it’s the correct decision, and then don’t consider what happens as a result of that decision day 2 and beyond.
I agree and that was my first thought. They rewarded bad behavior and provided encouragement for it to happen more in the future.
I would have thrown a mustard bottle
The amount of flags being thrown in SEC is taking away from the game. A bad call, but you can’t overturn it after watching the video board…
I have never seen an unreviewable call overturned after the call was made. What made this so egregious is that the Texas fans were rewarded for throwing stuff in the field. Without that delay the refs would have gone on about the game and lived with a bad call, just like all the other teams in the league have to deal with.
Any change of possession play is subject to review, Lewis.
In college football any plays reviewable elements may be reviewed. Pass interference is not reviewable in any case.
Except they didn’t review it dingdong. They watched the video board while debris was being thrown and then the official who threw the flag couldn’t tell what he threw the flag for. That’s not a “review”, except in this conference evidently. Pathetic tbh.
Disregard the above reply, it was meant for 57939names

Just a review for possession, not a penalty during the play (unless targeting). First college game?
They did this just two weeks ago at A&M. Called pass interference on TAMU which gave Mizzou a 1st down in a&m territory. The home crowd went bizzerk so they then huddled and picked up the flag with no explanation while the replays were showing the call was correct all along. But as a result 4th down, Mizzou had to punt. You say you’ve never seen it, but it’s happened multiple times this year in this smfh conference already.
Well Texas, I hope after today and especially after the atrocious behavior of your fans let me remind you that you’re not in the same league anymore so learn how to conduct yourselves! Hopefully, the Commissioner will levy a fine to emphasize that point.
Not particularly difficult to solve this. In fact it would become a rule that was only used once. A mandatory forfeit by the home team. The stadium’s will police themselves after witnessing enforcement one time.
That’s a little harsh. It was a bad call to begin with but you can’t review it in that manner. Just wrong. Texas fans are such rookies. Not a single condiment or piece of golf equipment.
