CBS Sports’ Josh Pate cannot believe that the Missouri Tigers are still a ranked football team after Week 9. The Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa for another SEC matchup, and it couldn’t have gone much worse for the squad.

Eli Drinkwitz’s team was unable to score a single point, and the team lost 34-0. The Tigers are now 0-2 against ranked opponents in 2024, but still received enough votes to be the No. 25 team in the latest AP Poll.

“They’ve played now 2 ranked SEC teams,” explained Pate. “They have been outscored a combined 75-10 (in those games).”

Pate pointed out that, while the on-field product was bad, it’s even worse that the AP voters kept the team ranked.

“The most egregious crime of all is that the AP still has them (the Tigers) ranked,” said Pate. “The AP will have to answer for those crimes in due time.”

As Pate mentioned, Mizzou mustered just 239 total yards of offense and committed 3 turnovers. It wasn’t all on the offense, however, as the defense was gashed by Alabama’s ground game.

The Tide racked up 271 yards on the ground and Justice Haynes recorded his 2nd-highest rushing total of the season. Seven different players got a carry for the Tide, and the Missouri defense failed to force any turnovers.

After the Week 9 shellacking, the Tigers are now 6-2 overall and 2-2 in SEC play. This game was eerily reminiscent of the Tigers’ loss to Texas A&M in Week 6 when the team fell 41-10 in College Station.

Missouri was included in the top 25 over teams like Vanderbilt, Memphis, and Tulane, who all barely missed the cut.
