Eli Drinkwitz appears to yell expletives at Alabama after late hit on Brady Cook
Eli Drinkwitz has been very protective of Missouri quarterback Brady Cook during the season. Cook — who was taken to the hospital for an MRI on his ankle during Missouri’s Week 8 win over Auburn before returning — didn’t finish Saturday’s game against Alabama after suffering an upper-body injury. The Tigers fell to the Crimson Tide 34-0, dropping to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEC with the loss.
One particular moment from Saturday’s game stands out, though, and it came in the first quarter. Crimson Tide defensive lineman LT Overton drew the wrath of Drinkwitz after he was assessed a penalty for a late hit on Cook.
Officials had whistled the play dead for a delay of game on Missouri, but few realized it. Overton didn’t, flying to the quarterback for what he thought was a sack. Overton was assessed a 15-yard penalty for the play.
The hit angered Drinkwitz, who appeared to shout “f*** you” out toward the field multiple times. Here’s video of the incident from AL.com:

Cook eventually left the game, having gone 7-of-12 for 30 yards. His replacement, Drew Pyne, struggled, throwing 3 interceptions and finishing just 6-of-12 for 42 yards.
Quarterback play wasn’t the sole reason for the Tigers’ loss; they were outgained 486-239 and allowed 271 rushing yards to the Tide. Jalen Milroe threw for 215 yards on 16-of-26 passing and took 11 carries for 50 yards and a score.
Missouri hosts Oklahoma next, then travels to South Carolina and Mississippi State before wrapping the season up with the Battle Line rivalry game against Arkansas.
That play was 100% the fault of the officials. There were no clear whistles before the hit. The refs put Cook in danger, and no fault to the Bama player just making a play.
It’s shocking how bad officiating has become over the last 3-5 years. It was an occasional thing that has now become a standard, and with zero accountability or concern for their jobs.
It starts with holding Sankey accountable and removing him
Yeah, that will happen. Just as likely at a Tennessee natty..
Yeah-unfortunately he’s still got a lot of support from fans who inexplicably enjoy using their mouths to clean his balls-much like you
Missouri was awful today. The refs were also awful today, by fsr the worst college refs I remember seeing anywhere. To be fair sometimes they got a tough call right but they missed so much clearly visible calls AND called things that didn’t happen as well.
No one heard the whistle but the psychotic officials. They didn’t even wave their arms over their heads. The players are taught, and it is imperative that they do, play to the whistle. Neither team was well served by the way this play was handled or called.
The broadcast crew didn’t even hear it, nor when they listened for it on replay.
Sankey is a terrible leader who refuses to enforce accountability among his officials. Really embarrassing when you see the clowns we have versus the guys who call games on Sundays
It wouldn’t have been as much a problem if nobody heard it and they kept playing. But some of the Missouri players heard it and stopped playing.
And all the players that stopped moving…just like the QB before he was drilled in the numbers by a douchebag that heard the whistles too.
Drinkwitz is pure class, professionalism, and integrity. The kind of coaching you get from a guy who played the game at a high level himself.
Your comment is insincere but you make up for it by no apparent means also, like you I was hoping those two would add up but they don’t. In a game of testy participants this crew was just not able to handle it. So in the first quarter of the game neither team, nor the refs, looked like NCAA DI stuff. Little improvement followed. In facts a lot of aspects got a lot worse.
the overall officiating in the game was abysmal but then it’s the SEC so aren’t we all used to it?
Pyne cannot see well enough to be a college quarterback…. Or he has a similar issue. Drinkwitz’s quarterback training certainly is not helping him either. You can’t sit around for months without playing some game speed snaps. What Pine needs to do is go be a starter for somebody anybody and if he has any eligibility left after that try to move up.
I don’t think i’d be the idiot who doesn’t think a natty isnt wide open enough to exclude Tennessee. Everyone is vulnerable is what this year has shown. And can you imagine a record high scoring game if tenn
I don’t see any f in his mouth orientation so that pretty much rules out that slur attempt
