Oklahoma to be without key playmaker vs. Missouri, per report
Oklahoma will not have starting running back Jovantae Barnes against Missouri on Saturday, according to a report.
That news was broken by 247Sports’ Josh Callaway on Friday afternoon. Callaway reports that Barnes is dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered vs. Maine and did not make the trip to Columbia.
Barnes is a significant loss for the Sooners. He’s OU’s leading rusher this season with 577 total yards on the season. No other Oklahoma running back has more than 240 rushing yards so far in 2024.
With Barnes out, the Sooners will likely turn to some combination of Taylor Tatum, Gavin Sawchuk and Sam Franklin. Tatum is OU’s second-leading rusher this season, but he has had some ball-security issues this season. Sawchuck and Franklin are both under 100 total rushing yards on the season, but could have increased roles on Saturday vs. the Tigers.
This is a pivotal game for Oklahoma as the Sooners are looking for their 6th win to clinch bowl eligibility.
Missouri is also dealing with injury problems of its own. Quarterback Brady Cook is considered doubtful for this game and there are also questions regarding running back Nate Noel’s availability.
Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
