Deebo Samuel left the San Francisco 49ers Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2nd quarter. The WR had reportedly been dealing with shortness of breath in the contest.

Kyle Shanahan revealed on Monday that the star receiver had to check himself into the hospital on Sunday night due to his symptoms. The coach said Samuel has a “pneumonia-like” illness and has fluid on his lungs.

It’s unclear how long Samuel will be sidelined or if he will be available for next week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. Samuel’s loss would be huge for a team that also recently found out star WR Brandon Aiyuk will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL.

Through 6 games in 2024, Samuel has 20 catches for 335 yards and 1 touchdown. The versatile weapon also has 51 rushing yards and 1 score on the ground.

Samuel entered the league as a 2nd-round pick by the 49ers in the 2019 NFL Draft. The speedster played 5 seasons at South Carolina and earned First-team All-American and First-team All-SEC honors in 2018. Samuel ended his college career with 148 receptions for 2,076 yards and 16 TDs.

In 2021, Samuel had his best NFL season. The former Gamecock earned First-team All-Pro honors and a Pro Bowl selection after racking up 1,405 receiving yards and 365 rushing yards.
