Ha! What really sucks is that Georgia was a 24.5 point favorite and still lost. Their starting QB committed 4 turnovers, their star kicker missed 2 field goals, and South Carolina's backup QB had to finish the game after Georgia's cheap shot on our starter put him out of the game. Adversity matters.
If Tollison (Center) and Cook (QB) are both out, that means the two players who touch the football more than any other player will be replaced vs. South Carolina. Don't know much about Drake Heismeyer. He's a redshirt senior, but appears to have primarily played on special teams. Drew Pyne was serviceable against OU, but I think his stats are a bit skewed. He did have one long TD drive, but the other two TDs were short fields beginning in OU territory due to turnovers. Pyne has only hit 50% of his passes in SEC games and does not appear to be nearly as mobile as Cook, so he may be running for his life in the backfield on Saturday.
I have read the Complaint filed by Diego Pavia in the US District Court for the Middle District of TN, which, by the way, denied his TRO. This looks like a complete fail. Pavia argues that the NCAA restricts former JUCO athletes by reducing their eligibility for those years while playing football when they have little opportunity for NIL compensation. The problem is, nothing prevents them from getting a NIL contract in the JUCO ranks. Most don’t because no one cares about JUCO or watches it on TV. This is just a money grab for Pavia who wants to play a 6th season of football because he is not likely to be drafted by any professional team. Pavia’s prior experience look like this: Pavia received NO Division I offers. New Mexico Military Institute–2020 and 2021 Pavia played a shortened 8-game season in 2020 due to c-o-v-i-d, but would have otherwise burned a red shirt if in Division I. Pavia won the NJCAA Championship in 2021. The NCAA has granted an extra year of eligibility due to c-o-v-i-d. New Mexico State–2022 and 2023. Pavia graduates with Bachelor of Individualized Studies in Biology. Vanderbilt–2024 as a graduate student. Thus, Pavia is playing his 5th season of football, which would include the extra c-o-v-i-d year and has burned his NCAA eligibility. His lawyers essentially argue that he should be entitled to ignore his JUCO playing time and be allowed 4+ years of eligibility at the NCAA level since he had no NIL opportunities as a JUCO athlete. It seems like a ridiculous argument since Pavia wasn’t even on Division I radar until he had won a championship at the JUCO level.
Since when did Pennsylvania legalize recreational marijuana? C'mon, Pat. Save it for the off-season.
Would anyone be surprised if there was a cage full of squirrels in the Ole Miss equipment room?
Heck of a catch, especially holding on after a big hit.
You are aware that the College Football Playoff Committee has their own Top 25 rankings right? collegefootballplayoff(dot)com(backslash)rankings
No way Pavia sniffs an NFL contract. His completion percentage is horrendous and he’s not catching any teams by surprise anymore. Vandy may lose its last 3 games to close the season.
Got my tickets to the sold out show. Pavia is still a bit hobbled so we'll see if he can continue his magic with our front five wrecking crew.
Apparently embarrassing the opposing quarterback does not play into these rankings.
SC comes to Nashville next week so I will be front and center for that game. SC's wrecking crew defense will be licking their chops at getting to Pavia early and often. Should be a good one.
Looks like it was the Aggies defense that got exposed. 530 yards of total offense and 286 yards rushing is really going to sink A&M's defensive stats. Aggies got shutout in the second half. They will need to lick their wounds as they close out the season.
South Carolina has played some teams with very good defenses thus far. Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma are all in the top half of the conference in defense so far. LSU is defensively strong in keeping points off the board. We still have games against Mizzou and Texas A&M. That can be tough for a young quarterback. We have seen glimpses of greatness, but I suspect things will get better with a little maturity.
It’s easy to change the climate, you just change a uniform, talk a little game, dance around, put on some stupid sunglasses, you can change a climate,” Stoops said. “But to change a culture is at the core, and I’m quite certain we’ve changed our culture. Just who we are and how we’re perceived. Walk around with some of the greatest coaches and that respect you get, and the respect our players carry with them.
Miami is eking by subpar conference teams and have little standing in their way in their remaining schedule. They will get annihilated once they face some real talent.
Florida State is a pathetic shell of last year's team. You really have to wonder if the team has thrown in the towel this early in the season. They are dead last in the ACC in total yards per game with only 73 rushing yards per game thus far. They are also dead last in scoring with only 15 points per game. Conversely, they are near to dead last in the conference in rushing yards allowed with 172 rushing yards per game. Norvell's Memphis teams were juggernauts on offense. He has clearly lost his way with a much better talent pool. At least 3 4-star recruits have de-committed thus far. Good thing he signed a contract extension in January 2024 giving him roughly 10 million per year through 2031.
A born again Kris-chen who frequents escort services is a really bad mix. Perhaps coach should focus more on football.
Georgia may not care. After all, what's another 5 star recruit? South Carolina, however, is licking its chops.
Such a whiner! You've been griping about one play on many different threads. The reality is that SC turned the ball over 4 times and missed a FG and Bama still couldn't get anywhere near the 21.5 point spread in their favor. Gripe about that why don't you?
I tend not to rely on one suspect call as the play that affected the outcome. 3 fumbles, an interception, and a missed field goal doomed the Gamecox. Even so, Bama could only muster a 2 point victory.
If you really want to gripe . . . you should complain about your own team. They got beat up on pretty much every stat except turnovers.
Good thing the games is in New Orleans or Rattler may be swimming for his life. The Saints are better against the run than the pass, but the problem is their offense. If Rattler can't sustain drives, the defense will wear out just like they did against the Chiefs.
Mike . . . I am with you. Some years you just have to put on the rose-colored glasses and find the gold lining in some aspect of team sports. I would also go with the chances that your team will be getting a better coach soon. That's certainly a positive.
Was Ole Miss v Kentucky considered a "big game" by anyone other than Oskie? Ole Miss was more than a 2 TD favorite at kickoff. Having said that, Lane Kiffin is 4-25 against teams that finished the season ranked in the AP poll.
Ole Miss' early cupcake schedule has not prepared them for the SEC conference meat grinder. Vandagriff is near the bottom of the conference in touchdowns thrown and is near the top in number of sacks taken, but still managed to knock Ole Miss off at Vaught Hemingway Stadium. Things will not get any easier at Willy B.
It depends. Do I get the rest of Tennessee's team, offense and defense, with Nico? If so, I'll take him. Brady Cook actually has more passing yards and a better TD/INT ratio than Nico, but Nico has thrown for more TDs and has more rushing yards, but not by a lot.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness. --Oscar Wilde-- ...and mediocrity aptly describes the Colorado Buffaloes.
Hmmm....Tennessee so far has played the following schools with the following defensive rankings: Chattanooga--they rank 114 out of 123 FCS schools (not worthy of mentioning) NC State--they rank 106 out of 133 FBS schools (pathetic) Kent State--they rank 133 out of 133 FBS schools (downright disgusting) Oklahoma--they rank 28 out of 133 FBS schools (good) Color me unimpressed thus far. No worries . . . Tennessee has the following upcoming games . . . Arkansas--they rank 57 out of 133 FBS schools (mediocre) Florida--they rank 112 out of 133 FBS schools (laughable) Alabama--they rank 13 out of 133 FBS schools (now we're talking) Kentucky--they rank 6 out of 133 FBS schools (excellent, if only they had an offense) Mississippi State--they rank 111 out of 133 FBS schools (unworthy of SEC) Georgia--they rank 4 out of 133 FBS schools (premiere) UTEP--they rank 105 out of 133 FBS schools (ridiculous) Vanderbilt--they rank 60 out of 133 FBS schools (mediocre) My point is, don't beat your chests too much over a 10-point victory over OK whose offense looked mostly inept. You'll get your chance to show the world against Alabama and Georgia.
Oklahoma's defense is ranked #28 in yards per game allowed (284). That puts them behind 7 other SEC teams. Not sure I would qualify that as really good...good maybe...but not really good.
