3 matchups that will define Florida vs. LSU (and a prediction)
LSU “seems” susceptible to the run? Exchange “seems” with “is” is the better word.
“The committee loves brand name programs.”
That’s exactly why I don’t like football polls. I’d prefer playoff teams to be decided on the field without the human vote. Divide major college football into four 16 team conferences. This is the only time where name brand would come into play - then close the book on it. Each conference would be built around trams with strong winning histories and regions. All games would have to be played within the conference, except for one money game and one game against a team from one of the other conferences. Each conference would hold a 4 team playoff at the end of the regular season to choose its conference champion. The 4 conference champions would then move into the a 4 team nation championship playoff. If this concept were to be used, the national champion would remove human subjectivity and decided on the field. Every game, from the first game of each season would be .
Why even consider expanding the dance? It had served college basketball well at its current size for years. But to expand it would do nothing but allow more teams with no hope of winning a championship, much less even winning a game. It will pull away from the NIT. Give those players a chance to actually play for something. Just keep it as is…it works!
I agree with her. It was an assine stunt to bring that over weight Tiger from Florida to the game as a replacement for Mike the Tiger. Gov Landry it was pure stupidity on your part. There’s only one tiger LSU fans respect and love…that’s Mike. We don’t want a fake Mike being on campus.
As far as stressing the animal goes, yes, bringing an animal into an environment of 102,000 screaming fans is cruel to the animal. That applies not only to a Tiger, it applies to bulldogs, longhorn steers and any other animal.
Geez, what a pathetic job of proofreading I’d did! I’ll do better next time.
After reading the article and the numerous posts (at least those not bashing RonMexico and his reply’s), no one hit the nail on the head. LSU’s problem is the talent level on the team. When Kell took the team over, remember he watched LSU get thrashed in the Texas Bowl by K State because it had only 45 players suit up for the game. Heck the QB was a wide receiver.
Kell had to hit the portal hard to field a team in ‘22. He transitioning to building the team from recruits now. Most of the recruits are still young and haven’t reached their potential yet. The ‘25 class is in the top 5 in the country. It takes time to build a championship team. Kelly can and will do it at LSU. Hi is still a couple of years away. But I will say this, if he doesn’t do it by year 5, I’ll agree that it’s A Kelly problem.
Yeah robbed, right…42-13 robbed!
A few poor calls don’t result in a lopsided score like that! It’s called being ill prepared. It’s called coaches not doing their jobs. It’s called players not executing. If anyone was robbed, it was the fans who were expecting a close nail biting game to the end, but instead got an embarrassing thud.
One word explains everything about LSU’s blowout loss to Alabama….EMBARRASSING. The embarrassment began before the game even began when the Louisiana governor pushed for a live Tiger to be at the game. Not Mike the Tiger, but some fake from a wildlife preserve in Florida.
LSU knew it had issues with stopping running QB’s. It would seem that with 2 weeks to prepare, they’d have had a better defensive game plan. But no, just more of the same. This year’s LSU defense is much better than last seasons’s D. But it doesn’t take much to make that distinction. Again that word embarrassing comes to mind.
Before I get to the offense, how about the Tiger fans when they disagreed with a “correct” call and thought they’d pull a Texas stunt and throw bottles onto the field. EMBARRASSING. Come on Tiger fans, you’re better than that!
Now the offense. Let’s begin with the run game. Oh I forgot, LSU doesn’t have a run game. They’d have a tough time running the ball against a defense that didn’t have a defensive line. Again, embarrassing.
Now the QB. Going into the season, Nussmeier was expected to the bright spot on the team. He was for the first 4 games this season. But then the fears we all had about him proved to be real. That knack to throw interceptions, not going through his progressions, and his inability to run the ball when the opportunity is there. Where are the downfield passes he used to make? When he tries to throw deep, he’s usually off target. Tiger fans thought we had our QB for the next 2 seasons. I’m not too sure about that any longer. Once again embarrassing comes to mind. Maybe it’s time for Coach Kelly to begin experimenting with the backup, Ricky Collin’s, who happens to be a duel threat, and a darn good one at that.
Now that I mentioned Coach Kelly, let’s talk about the coaching staff. It’s embarrassing that when you have 2 weeks to prepare for an opponent, the team shows up Ill-prepared and lays a thud in the field. I’m ok with Coach Baker as D coordinator. I think he’ll get the defense to where it needs to be when he gets the defensive players he needs to do the job. But Joe Sloan as offensive coordinator? Again embarrassing. His play calling is vanilla. I’m not even going to bring up the offense’s inability to score red zone touchdowns. They haven’t been able to do that the entire season. And what the heck was that play he called right before half time? It’s clear, Joe Sloan is not the coach we need to head up the offense.
As I said, one word describes this fiasco of a game. EMBARRASSING. With more than 50 recruits at the game, they’ll think one of 2 things. 1) I want nothing to do with this team, or 2) this team needs a lot of help. Maybe I’ll get a ton of playing time earl in my career. So how many of those recruits will lean towards #1??
To bring a Tiger that isn’t Mike to the game is stupid. There’s only one Mike the Tiger. No substitutes!
Her street is 100% correct. Enough is enough.
Do these writers ever proof read their work?
Injuries or no injuries, Oklahoma just is not built for SEC football. The squad has BIG12 written all over it.
I wish this young man success in whatever issue he is battling. Success begins will recognizing and being willing to address the issue. Good luck Tyrell Ward, Tiger fans are pulling for you!
I have read some criticisms from folks about Kirk bringing his pet on set. Some people are so insensitive.
Nuss has morphed into the player we feared. He’s trying to mak things happen which usually results in a turnover. When he plays within the game plan, he’s unstoppable. But when he tries to play hero, he tends to force things that are beyond his capabilities.
Who cares what Mr Big Ears believes. He’s wrong most of the time.
This game makes me wonder if TAM beat LSU or did LSU beat itself. I’m leaning to the latter.
Great reply to a nothing post!
Coached must prepare a team for every scenario. Obviously the Tiger defensive coaches failed to do that when preparing for A&M.
I have to wonder Weigman has been the Aggie starting QB. Reed definitely brings a different dimension to their offense. He’s a much better QB.
Week 9 SEC Primer: LSU and Texas A&M are on a roll. Only one of them can keep it going into November
After 6 yrs of back n forth, it’s time for a change. That change is going to happen.
Week 9 SEC Primer: LSU and Texas A&M are on a roll. Only one of them can keep it going into November
Only in your crossed eyes.

LSU 31
TAM 17
I don’t like a division-less conference. But the two division conference has its issues too with the possibility of the best 2 teams not playing for the conference championship.
I’d prefer major college football set up into four 16 team conferences (64 teams) arranged by geographic regions and historical power. Each conference would have a 4 team conference playoff. The 4 conference champions would earn (get that, earn, not voted) the right to play in the 4 team national championship playoff. That would effectively be a 16 team playoff. No crybaby stuff about my team (Florida St, last season) should have made the playoffs. Teams would be determined on the field, not from subjective human voting. It would intensity to regional football again. None of the California teams playing in the ACC. Some will say it’ll leave out most of the Div 1 schools like Appalachia St, LA Tech, etc. I say to that, so what? They don’t belong in the big leagues anyway. They can have their own championship giving more players the opportunity to really play for a championship.
Nothing beautiful about a division-less conference.
You’re right.
Reasonable. I have LSU 31 A&M 17
LSU became a better team when Perkins wend down. He simply was not a linebacker. Weeksis a true LB and it’s showing with the large strides the defense has made.
EKingGill, LSU losing 3 more games is possible. But more likely doubtful. In fact LSU has a better chance at running the table the remainder of the regular season than losing 3 more games. My prediction is the Tigers are going to run the table.
Oklahoma and (to a certain extent) Texas, are not built for the “in the trenches” SEC-style of play. Oklahoma has been nudging towards disaster in SEC play while Texas learned its lesson in only its second (the Oklahoma win was really a BIG12 game) SEC true blood game.
LSU’s offense has been solid the entire season. The running game still needs improvement, but I’ll take that offense over just about any offense in the nation. The biggest improvement is the defense. The improvement came to light when Harold Perkins was lost for the season. He was playing LB and he is not a LB. He was often out of position on plays requiring other players to cover for him. It was like there were 10-1/2 players on the field when he was playing. Since he went down, Weeks, a true LB has stepped in and LSU now has a formatable defense with 11 players. Weeks in a hand full of starts and prior spot play is the leading the SEC in tackles by LB’s. By season end, people will no longer be asking who Georgia or Texas will be playing in the SECCG. They’ll be asking who will LSU be playing.
