3 matchups that will define Florida vs. LSU (and a prediction)
He could pull a mullen-rino and hold him out like Mullen did with Pitts 4 years ago against LSU, which started this whole dark chapter. Imagine if UF wins that game and somehow upsets bama. CBN crisis averted.
No lagway, chance of Gator win no bueno. Billy has a tough decision risk the future of his five star qb or risk being the first Gators coach since FDR was president in the mid 30’s to have 3 consecutive losing seasons. That’s something that would follow him for the rest of his career and rightly so.
Billy Napier: how I learned to stop worrying and learned to love the moral victories
NYC it’s the 5 stages of grief. I felt the same but ultimately processed the fact the Gators aren’t good and the commitment from the school isn’t there to change it. So acceptance - though the danger is if acceptance turns to fan apathy across the base. The admin is playing with fire.
Great points that it is a business decision and stricklin can fund raise. But the admin better be careful to balance the equation of winning on the field and fund raising. At some point if the losing continues the storied Florida brand will become an heirloom or legacy brand like Nebraska etc. At which point the diminished brand value will affect leverage in TV revenue sharing and value in conference realignment moves.
Napier is afraid of winning. It’s always something he’s working toward with his lessons on resilience from losing, it’s never something he’s embracing in the now. Until he changes his mentality the gators will always be one or two plays/scores/good play calls away from being winners again.
Total house cleaning is needed from regents on down to president to UAA and AD, mbb and cfb coaches. Start from scratch. The people that are the problem will not fix the problem. Bring in qualified alums from outside the echo chamber to run things who aren’t there for graft. Maybe cease football and bball for a couple of years till a total reboot can be done.
Fire him and stricklin now for cause. This can’t be tolerated. Athletics is in shambles right now. Put Tebow and SOS in charge for the interim.
*$10 million
NIL funds cannot be paid by the school but rather from boosters in the form of donations to collectives who in turn offer endorsements and payments to the players. How exactly do these so-called sources close to the program exactly think UF will use the $10 million saved from not payingNapier’s buyout to pay players NIL money. I get they could use $10 of money from revenue sharing that would have gone to napiers buyout as part of revenue sharing in the 2025 season but that’s not NIL.
I get they are trying to save the 2025 class and lagway. But what if in the most likely case he goes 5-7 or 4-8 (pretty much lock with Warner if dj is hurt)? Really says something about the state of UF’s leadership - president on down. True Gator fans will still care but it’s clear the admin doesn’t.
G o d speed young man for a full recovery - Gator Nation is with you!
I could see him as a decoy on obvious passing downs where the safeties stay back for cbn to call one of his bone headed run plays off tackle. Still better success rate then having Warner drop back to pass.
Man this is tough. AR was never the same player after pulling his hamstring against usf. Would hate to see DJ become fragile like AR. The danger of dual threat qbs. Napier skating on thin ice. There is no chance to win without him, but if he tears it by going too soon it could derail his career. Would not want to be making that decision.
Need a slam dunk this hire. Kiffin isn’t the guy to beat Georgia, nothing in his track record says he can win on the national stage. Need a tough as nails guy like lanning. Schumann would also be interesting if coupled with a good OC and he’s stays far away from offense. Cignetti could also be interesting though he has no southern roots. But neither did urban.
Thanks doc, our young men are clearly bought in and love Billy and playing for him. DJ was the catalyst for transforming billy’s character-first style of program building into winning. With that gone, moral victories won’t be enough for Gator nation, nor should they be. Sad that character first and winning couldn’t go hand-in-hand.
Love these Gators. They looked magnificent in defeat.
The problem is they looked magnificent in defeat.
As for Billy, he is a great developer of men of character, and is a good man.
Unfortunately we aren’t in the era of Knute Rockne when CFB was about character development.
It’s now a business where the product is wins and losses.
I hope I’m wrong but with a third straight losing season the most likely outcome it becomes a pure business decision.
As for DJ, super sad for him and all of these young players. I really thought he would lead the Gators like a phoenix out of the ashes ala Tebow. May the goodwill of all gators go with this team now in the tough weeks ahead. Go Gators!
Awful for Marshall. After a bad junior year he had really upped his play and showed out. Likely ends his Gators career - he’s been a great Gator. Best wishes young man fir a quick recovery and good luck preparing for the draft
You guys are killing it with the nostalgia. Moon pies evokes memories of sophomore year care packages
Yet another one of Billy’s life lessons so he could teach “resilience”. Perhaps that’s how he views football - losing is just another life lesson to help shape character. Would explain a lot.
Hilarious - funyons were all the rage in 5th grade.
Refreshing perspective GFA as always but for Gator football to be fun again they to return to their winning ways of old. Those two years with Trask were last time Gator football was fun.
Great point - it only matters what the gators think, they have to believe there is a possibility of winning.
Great take Nash, very credible except for the 3 wins. Gators need to be in prove it mode every single down and take no thing for granted, results will follow
Just like last year any prognostication on UF pulling the upset is rat poison. I sure hope the Gators aren’t listening to it other than disrespect coming from UGA players or staff which is bulletin board material. Kirby’s unbridled hate for UF will come through as he tries to break the young star and the Gators’ future. The Gators need to block the noise and focus like men possessed on being the best version of themselves, otherwise same outcome as last year or worse
Goal 1 - keep DJ healthy and otherwise un-concussed
Goal 2 - DJ leaves the game confidence intact
Goal 3 - keep the scoring streak alive CBN you bonehead
Everything else after that is gravy
Agree hogs should be the highest of that bunch based on resume if beating UTk
One team has won 5 nattys in the big 2 sports, 4 this century, and 6 in total if you include baseball. The other never has won a natty in the big 2 sports and likely never will. I’ll leave it to you to figure which is Miz.
Agree STL. If they protect DJ and let the game slow down they can perhaps make it interesting. Unfortunately the talent differential is too high if UGA comes to play. They will not sleep walk on UF like they do UK, etc
There’s no such thing as loyalty in cfb or largely in any professional endeavor, which cfb clearly is now. I hope that DJ is the exception given his character which reminds of Tebow in many ways. Hope he does not choose the ‘easy path’ like others, not to be named.
