Lane Kiffin pitches ‘a lot easier’ formula for SEC’s tie-breaker scenario
In the new era of football, that makes sense to me. Sure, that would mean non-conference wins/losses would impact the SECCG. But the conference championship games are basically play-ins to the playoff now anyways...
Another example of how the media narrative that Kiffin is only focused on the portal is nonsense. If you look back at the last 4 classes, he signs a small class of solid players (roughly 50% blue chip), and almost always the top player in Mississippi.
He adds the portal haul on top of a Mississippi (and often Florida) core high school foundation. OleMiss will never be able to recruit like UGA, but this approach is working for OleMiss in a way we haven't seen in a long time.
OleMiss has finished inside the top twelve twice with a 9-3 record back in 2014/15. However, that required a lot of help from other teams losing.
There are likely going to be too many 10+ wins team, especially from the SEC and BIG10, that would block out a potential 3 loss UGA.
Kentucky was an early season upset. That happens a lot of with teams who experience major roster turnover. That will always be a risk. But yes, still a perplexing loss.
I know LSU just got wrecked, but night games in Baton Rouge have a reputation for a reason. OleMiss led the entire game until it mattered. It's not a "shocker" to lose there at night, even with a good team.
Does it really need explaining? Get more high draft pick NFL ready dudes on your D-line... Not much of a head scratcher.
The OleMiss loss to Kentucky is disgusting. Only reason they might get in over UT (if UT loses to UGA) is because OleMiss dominated Arkansas and UGA in November. As an OleMiss fan, I'm really not sure which team winning helps us out more (UT/UGA).
In previous decades I would agree. But I think NIL & the transfer portal have spread depth across the league. The 12 team format is here at the perfect time.
But will there still be some blowouts? Sure.
I think Arkansas might punch Texas in the mouth. Not calling the upset, but I'm feeling an unexpectedly close fight in that one.
Notre Dame, Group of 5, and conference champions will clearly not leave enough space in the playoff for 5 SEC teams this year. Someone is going to be left out at 10-2. That is going to suck. Hope it's not my team...
I know that OleMiss had a terrible loss to Kentucky by 3. But it really feels like this current OleMiss team should be ranked 1 ahead of UGA after dominating that game.
Umm, Kiffin is about to have 3x 10+ win seasons over just a 4 year span… that’s pretty consistent if you ask me.
I understand the glass ceiling comments about OleMiss. I just find it interesting that people talk about the program like it's awful since it can't beat UGA or Bama.
Kiffin has reinvigorated the magnolia bowl against LSU. They have clearly been a top 3 to 5 team in the SEC since Kiffin arrived. OleMiss has the 3rd most wins in the SEC over the past 5 seasons. They have 4 NY6 appearances & 2 wins since the playoff era started. Only 3 other SEC programs can claim that.
The last decade has seen a couple awful years, but also many years that would average out to put OleMiss easily in the top 3rd of the conference. That can all change quickly. But for the time being, a decade is no small case study.
I'm proud of this program regardless of what happens Saturday. This weekend is an opportunity to break another glass ceiling. I'm sure UGA will bring their best.
So dumb. The only exhale from OleMiss fans you heard was relief that we don't have to hear your intentional manufacturing of baseless rumors anymore this season. Though I'm sure you will do it again on a different topic next week.
That is true and definitely a risky bet. But I'll also note that UGA has RARELY had this close of a line against anyone other than Bama over the past 4 years.
Kiffin does it because teams started doing it to his fast offense years ago. He will do it until they change the rules because he wants them to change the rules. It’s easy.
OleMiss by 10 or more. Defense going to win the game on the road.
lmao state would give anything to have a coach only whiff twice a year. Good luck winning 3 games.
Kiffin is on cloud 9 right now.
Kiffin tweeting “come to the sip” after landing an elite DB out of Florida while the national media starts to question UF’s job compared to OleMiss and the Rebs remain 4-0 makes for a WONDERFUL Saturday
LSU is going to beat the breaks off SC.
I don't understand this list. Is it the best overall players through 2 weeks? Or is it "standout" players from week 2?
"Top 10 entering week 3" makes me think it's top 10 from the season so far. Surely, Tre Harris and Jaxson Dart would be on that list...
Maybe 65 yards passing lol
Look, they sold out the game for MTSU…
It’s pretty self explanatory. When you play high school teams, put the students in the sun, charge them 18 bucks a beverage, and blow the doors off the competition, they go back to the Grove… so would I.
Schedule better competition and lower drink prices and I’m sure those upper corners of the student section will stay packed… otherwise, enjoy the cupcake game for what it is.
Texas A&M would get votes if they were 0-12. "But they are ranked so high on 247's composite!?!?" lol
It's harmless and funny folks. No need to let your blood boil like I've been seeing in the responses on X...
LSU is still top 25. The season will play itself out, but I'd pretty much rather play any of the teams listed starting at #17. My guess is LSU will be sitting at #22ish when the AP is released.
Agreed. Could be SC for example. I also went to OleMiss when we LOST to Jacksonville State... so I much prefer completely dominating. If anything, it's not a bad sign.
The opening schedule is boring. I do wish it was more entertaining. But Kiffin plays the system as it is designed. Right now he has scheduled a pre-season that enables ample runway for getting new transfers acclimated to our system before major competition.
It's unfortunate that our annual September ACC opponent this year is Wake Forest. Guess I'll be watching that game on the CW lol
Kiffin has landed the top player in the Sip 3 years in a row. OleMiss has no reason to lose a top WR. Hope his parents love their new country club house and Caleb likes his new Lambo!
