3 takeaways from Kentucky’s thrilling win over Duke
I was pretty concerned about our defense until the second half of the Duke game. Then I was really surprised at the improvement I saw in the second half. We will need to bring that defensive effort against most of the SEC teams we will face this year, and a few others in the meantime. It's good to know that we can bring it when needed.
We may not have to be a whole lot better in March than we are at present. But we will have to improve in some areas to handle the really tough teams we will face later, especially when SEC play begins. I think we will get there, though. I believe the test vs. Duke helped expose some areas where improvement is needed. I agree that we are off to a really good start. I love the new coach. Go Cats!
Maybe so...but we like what we've seen so far. Go Cats!
He’s not at Troy any more. He’s the HC at Tulane.
No coach of the week this week on SDS? I've been looking for Clark Lea to be named, but haven't seen anything so far. 247 has named him. So I guess the last two SEC coaches of the week are pitted against one another this week. Looking forward to a great game.
I hope we can slow him down enough to keep the score down in this one. Time of possession may be one of the main battles in this game.
Yeah...the U of L scandal left a stain. I do hope that we don't miss any key moments in the game tomorrow due to cameras lingering on Pitino. Other than that, I am OK with leaving the past behind.
I like the checkerboard pattern OK on a football uniform. My favorite logo is the one with the big, mean cat crawling up the UK symbol. That would be awesome in the middle of Kroger Field, Rupp Arena, and Memorial Coliseum.
I agree bigblueskydog. I hope he gets a good reception. Time to put the past behind us.
Vandy vs. UK is likely draw a larger viewing audience this year than is usually the case.
Josh Pate is another.
I'm glad BVG didn't let the SC game get him down. I think what I am seeing is a really good QB learning the ropes of leading an SEC team. The experience he has acquired so far seems to be helping his confidence. If we can keep him protected, I think he may be shining pretty soon. The next three games should help him elevate his game quite a bit. O-line seems to be coming along pretty well.
I'm gonna miss not playing Mizzou this year.
They didn't want to get the two Matt Jones's confused, so they had to keep ours out of play.
I think Pitino and the state of KY may be back on good terms for the most part.
...and a cheerleading school.
He's the reason we burn couches in KY.
As Kentucky as bourbon and horse racing.
Our starting right tackle (Courtland Ford) is out for the season since before the season started. Still, we should be a lot better there than we showed last week.
Wow! No wonder they couldn't get around to it. I didn't realize it took that long but come to think of it, sounds about right.
A 1-point safety is theoretically possible, but has only happened three times in college.
So far, Pope seems to be handling the new job pretty well.
I have been tempted to say the same thing. What prevents me is that SC has a pretty solid defense, and it will be hard to put up a lot of points against them. But we may not have to unless their offense looks a lot better this week.
Just guessing - yes. I think we will be significantly better this year on the O-line.
Numerous losses? Our returning production is tops in the SEC. My biggest concern is the new OC, O-line coach, and new wide receivers coach, but I think we will be better in all those areas than last year. I believe BVG will be much better than Leary was last year. I'm thinking we will win at least 8 this year, maybe 9 if the ball bounces our way in one of the tough games. I'm an optimist, of course.
Yeah...that's a head scratcher. They may have gotten that one backwards.
Word is that we should have an elite defense this year. From what I can gather between the lines, the offense appears to be quite good as well. But Stoops is not revealing much, which is usually a good sign. We will play a faster-pace on offense. Great receivers and tight ends. Running backs and quarterbacks are an unknown quantity until the season starts, but we should be good in both areas. O-line has improved.
My intuition is that this is likely to be the best overall team that Stoops has put together so far, but we'll have to wait and see, I guess.
Not true. We ended a 32-game losing streak, didn’t we?
The conference may be on the verge of doing just that.
I remember that scandal. I also agree that if no one at the university 'knew or reasonably should have known' what was going on until after the fact, the penalty does not make any sense - especially the part about vacating wins. From the sound of things, UK Health Care was either unaware, or simply keeping it to themselves. Strange. A fine seems halfway appropriate. Anything else seems excessive, given the circumstances.
