And just like that, Mark Pope has brought back Kentucky basketball
This is kind of like declaring Alabama doesn't miss Saban after DeBoer beat UGA. Like, it's a great win, be happy about it, but it's also only his first test. Cal won some pretty massive games at UK too. Didn't stop him from getting bounced by a couple of 14+ seeds in the tourney. Kind of like Pope getting bounced by Duquesne.
the majority of which were against Butch or Pruitt, but 0-3 is still not good so I'm not going to argue
My thoughts exactly
I think if they lose to Georgia chances are still good they get in. They need to beat MSU, UTEP and Vandy, and then according to ESPN they have > 60% chance to make it. That seems pretty likely, but given Vandy's shock the world reputation this season, it's not a sure thing.
Awesome playoff breakdown.
Random note: I can never figure out what the Awful Announcing page actually does. By the name, I would think they would be highlighting bad calls by the announcers, but the post included in this article, the one where Tom Hart and Jordan Rodgers call for Omarr Norman-Lott to be penalized for shoving a player to the ground out of bounds on a play where he wasn't even playing... like that sounds completely reasonable. How is calling for a penalty there awful announcing?
They're close, but not sure what the Longhorns have done to be ranked ahead of UT. They're really good obviously, but they've surrendered 30 points in a game, and they haven't forced an absolute outlier low performance against any offense, unlike Tennessee, who held Alabama, who has scored pretty well on pretty much everyone, to 17.
I'm splitting hairs here, but I think if you're going to talk about the best defense in this conference this year, you have to split hairs to choose just one, and when you do I think you end up with Tennessee.
Dawg if you're going to come at him all smug at least read carefully...He said 10-2 after losing to Georgia and no one else, the 6-1 is their current record, not their predicted conference record at the end of the season, that's why it says "after week off" because week off is what they had this week.
I swear people love to hate on these writers and then can't even comprehend basic sentences
Wait... the Auburn kicker has been out all year because his tummy hurts?!?!
So you're saying that LSU and Texas A&M both get in over Tennessee, despite at least one of them having two losses? Maybe but I don't see it
seems like they're measuring heat based on fan opinion, a sort of torches-and-pitchforks measure of seat heat. By that measure, I'm sure there have been some state fans calling for Lebby's head ever since the Toledo game.
idk, maybe when Nico gets some more experience and actually plays well?
No guarantees the vols trend up after this year, but acting like THIS is the year all the stars have aligned and we'll never have another team this good is insane.
If anything that year was 2022, though the defense then was way worse than now.
OU may have burned those bridges some after they fired him. He has a hell of a history there, but he's also made some pretty great history at UT now. I could definitely see him going, but I definitely don't think it's a sure thing.
Not sure about Mizzou but LSU sure might
I mean the one FG that didn't count because of the penalty was definitely entirely bad coaching, and one of the others was also mostly bad coaching, but you can't take all credit away from the Tennessee defense for getting a 4th down stop and forcing a fumble on first and goal at the 1 (Not sure how that one is even on Napier at all, a QB sneak is generally a good playcall on 1st & goal from the 1)
what evidence do you claim to have about Tennessee players playing dirty? Like from this decade.
Jeremiah Smith is incredible, but let's be honest, the only reason Klatt thinks he's better than Ryan Williams is because he plays for a Big Ten team.
Woah everyone look, Doug from AL.com is having some sort of schizophrenic breakdown. I've never seen someone have such a vicious argument with themselves
That stuff is great and all but that doesn't mean they're not a laughing stock. The whole country was laughing when they threw 4 picks to Cal and lost, the whole country was laughing when they threw 4 more picks and lost to Arkansas. It's not like they're Florida or Jimbo A&M levels of humiliated or anything close to that, but people have been rightfully laughing at Freeze for stocking with Thorne.
They should wait on him to get all his recruits in though, he's not a lost cause by any means.
Not sure I agree about OU having the better QB. Arnold seems like a basket case, and Hawkins will give them a better shot to win, but as we saw against Auburn he's hardly a world beater.
Taylen Green hasn't been a superstar by any means, often struggling with efficiency. But inconsistent doesn't mean impotent. He has significantly more upside than any of the QBs Tennessee has seen this year have flashed. Fortunately, I doubt he'll have any more time in the pocket against Tennessee than he did against Texas A&M, and I think that being forced to run for his life constantly is a big part of his accuracy problem.
I think we keep him in check. But I think he has more chance to pop off than OU or NC State's QBs did.
Agreed about living rent free. Florida always beats us even when we should win. Heupel hasn't had that problem at home yet, and this is maybe the least threatening Florida team he will have faced, but we will see what happens. It's never a guaranteed W.
Ah look at that I guess he's still angry. Go figure.
I meant any less likely to Go 0-2. Oh well
Well I hope voltrainconductor is happy...We're above Georgia in the meaningless AP poll...Unfortunately that does not make us any less likely to avoid going 0-2 against Bama and UGA.
I hope we can avoid a trap game upset this year unlike the last two years, like 2022 @ SC and 2023 @ UF. Arky should be overmatched but they have weapons
oh here he is nevermind
Imagine my surprise coming to a comments section on a post that mentions UGA/UA and not seeing voltrainconductor talking nonsense about meaningless AP poll results. Maybe the world isn't doomed after all.
You seem to have missed Pitt, who I would include in the Syracuse BC and GT category. Holstein is exciting and they have been pretty consistently good. That Cincinnati win also looks better by the week.
Brady Cook is too high. He's had the same decent-not-great performance play to play as Nico Iamaleava, with none of the eye-popping highlights, against much weaker competition. Should be Nussmeier 5, Iamaleava 6, Cook 7.
the one thing no one accomplished is asking
I tend to agree with that on some level. Obviously Ole Miss is nowhere near the caliber of historic program of Florida, that doesn't mean everything. It would be like assuming Dan Lanning just up and leaves his job at Oregon if he got offered the Florida job. Florida is still a more important program than Oregon by a lot, but leaving a very stable and successful situation for a shambles of a team is always tough, and when you have a proven winner in a power conference, and you're not talking about moving to your dream job, why risk it?
dawg you have to be like 10 years old right??? Right?????
If so, come back in about 7 years when you have something actually worth while to say.
If not, all the more reason to please just shut up
