VT is going to have to make some tough decisions about Pry, his staff and the AD as contracts start to come up and performance remains subpar.
Kudos to SMU. ACC officiating remains the headline. Simply atrocious.
Officiating has been horrendous. It’s a billion dollar industry. Get these guys trained and paid properly. The days of a ref getting $3k a game and being “serviceable” are over. Pry’s seat is warming up. Lose the next two it’s on fire. Next year’s schedule is not favorable and he won’t have the same talent so this may be the beginning of the end if he doesn’t turn it around quickly.
First Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon, now Ben The Goodest Boy and Chief Happiness Officer. Nothing brings this country together more than love for our pets. No better bond than a man and his dog.
Not the same caliber of Clemson as in the past. They trailed until the second half and then squeaked out a win against a VT team that is banged up (Drones played, put on a brace but eventually got pulled for backup QB Schlee who was also hurt. Turn was hurt and then eventually had to come out, but RB#2 Thomas was not available due to an injury so RB#3 was playing). With no VT offense Clemson barely won. SMU looks like the best team by far.
GT played like we knew they could and Cam’s tendency to hold the ball caught up with him. ACC top half continue to be similiar in strength. BC/Syracuse and the halftime VT/Clemson game further prove that. I expect Pitt and Clemson to have wins and stay at the top of the conference with Miami and SMU
VT is not consistent, or healthy but I not sure if Clemson’s record is a result of a weak schedule or if they’re good but had a bad week last week. Clemson is a 7 point favorite but won’t be surprised if they blow the Hokies out. I could see uva going winless the rest of the year.
It’s a result of preseason bias. Early unwarranted rankings allow teams to slip when they lose but unbanked teams have to start further back. This isn’t the NFL. Rosters change every year and the preseason rankings are a joke. Nobody looks unbeatable but because SMU doesn’t start with a high ranking, they are penalized. Just compare them to PSU. With Miami’s close calls, do they really deserve to be ranked so high? It’ll always be subjective but at least wait until you have real data before issuing a ranking
Well said about Pry. He has to overcome this issue quickly or he won’t be around. Miami fan base is horrible. Kudos to SMU. The team and fans have waited a long time for some love and they are making the most of it.
Hokies didn’t have starting QB, RB or LT…but it was the coaches that cost them the game
Hokies’ backups outperformed only to be let down by their coaches…again. No killer instinct or clock management skills. Congrats to SMU. That fan base has waited a long time.
Preseason polls place Pitt and SMU at a disadvantage. The loser could fall out of the top 25 unfairly. The models still showing only one ACC team in the playoff is ridiculous.
This is likely the under-the-radar best game of the weekend. Miami and Clemson were the obvious behemoths that made the conference appear top heavy but VT, Louisville, Pitt, and SMU have shown some depth. If Syracuse and GT finish strong, then I would say the ACC overall is a better conference than I expected. Even Cal’s record isn’t indicative of how good they are. Just need NC State, UNC and FSU to rebound. My guess is at least 2 of those teams will do it with new coaches next year.
Drones caught, threw and ran for a TD. How often has that happened by a QB?
SMU was trying to give that game away! They need to tighten up when Pitt comes to town which could be the best game of the week this week. I won’t be surprised if uva doesn’t win another game all year. I am glad the team rallied for Mack. Hopefully he can go out on top. Miami is overrated and lucky, but they are good and Cam is legit. But let’s be real about the AP poll, it makes no sense. Clemson dropped for no reason? Vandy dropped after taking a top 5 team to the wire? Why is Mizzou ranked? How is Pitt not a top 15 team? Crazy
Marcel Reed is a dude! Looked like the second coming of Tyrod Taylor last night!
Some good games ahead. SMU/Pitt, Louisville/Clemson, and if VT can get by Clemson, VT/Clemson could all have ACC title implications.
Vandy should remain ranked even with the loss!
I unc finishes strong for Mack. His career deserves to end with a bowl game win. If they can beat FSU and Wake in the next 2 weeks the they can grt to a bowl. Pitt is legit. Makes me hate the state of college football even more. The fact they don’t play Penn State every year is ridiculous. Of course I’d rather see Pitt, Syracuse, and BC in the Big 10 anyway due to proximity. There just isn’t a natural rivalry with those northern schools. VT not playing WVA and Tennessee regularly is also ridiculous. Glad we get to go to Stanford these days. ‍♂️ If the Hokies can get by Syracuse, with or without Tuten and Chaplin, the VT/Clemson game in Blacksburg will be a good one. VT has to get healthy to have a shot. Clemson, Miami, Pitt are my top 1-2-3 in the ACC
It’s clearly Miami and Clemson for the ACC race. SMU got lucky winning with 6 turnovers but my bet is that their luck runs out at Pitt.
this is ACC football. You can tell because of a pre-season top 10 team having a 1-7 record.
Ward is a legit baller running the offense but the Miami D is can’t contain high power offenses
Team is rallying to send Mack off right. uva might not see another win this season!
Too bad he couldn’t go out on top but he has his legacy. UNC is far from the days he had them ranked #3 and they were rolling people.
I think Duke gets exposed. Pitt is legit. It’s over for NC State. Hokies are hitting their stride but need to park to have any chance at home against Clemson in two weeks. And it would be a great weekend if FSU beats Miami. lol
Hokies took too long to pull it together. 3 plays away from being undefeated hurts but they still have a shot at closing strong! Refs in ACC and SEC were awful this weekend. We need a single body that has better trained officials. 4 in the top 25 isn’t bad but 9 for the SEC is ridiculous. Everyone looks beatable and Mizzou and Ole Mis are mid teams. Unfortunately the ACC teams aren’t stepping up…looking at you FSU, UNC, and VT.
I love that this article on the Biggest Takeaways ends with, “will be sent to the ACC office for further review”. lol
UVA played better than I expected. Miami is suspect. Still not sure much separates SMU, Pitt, Louisville, VT, GT, and BC. I just hope the officiating doesn’t decide these games!
