College Football Playoff rankings, Nov. 12: 4 SEC teams land in updated CFP bracket
The second College Football Playoff rankings for the 2024 season have been revealed.
The College Football Playoff will begin a new era this fall as it expands to 12 teams. The 5 highest-ranked conference champions will all receive automatic bids, leaving 7 spots open for at-large programs deemed worthy of inclusion by the selection committee. The top 4 spots in the bracket, reserved for the highest-ranked conference champions, will all receive first-round byes.
First round CFP games will be played on campus sites from Dec. 20-21. Four quarterfinal matchups will then played from Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 at bowl sites. The Fiesta Bowl will host a quarterfinal on New Year’s Eve while the other 3 quarterfinal matchups will take place on New Year’s Day at the Peach Bowl, the Rose Bowl and the Sugar Bowl.
For the semifinals, those games will be on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10 at the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl, respectively. The national championship game will be played in Atlanta on Jan. 20.
Here’s a look at the second-ever top 25 from the CFP selection committee in the 12-team Playoff era (first-round byes in bold):
- Oregon
- Ohio State
- Texas
- Penn State
- Indiana
- BYU
- Tennessee
- Notre Dame
- Miami
- Alabama
- Ole Miss
- Georgia
- Boise State
- SMU
- Texas A&M
- Kansas State
- Colorado
- Washington State
- Louisville
- Clemson
- South Carolina
- LSU
- Missouri
- Army
- Tulane
I would be so pumped if this is how it went down. Ole Miss vs PSU?! Yes please. Then Ole Miss vs BYU?! Double yes. I know this isn’t even close to how it will pan out, but that would be a dream until we would have to face the winner of Bama/Texas….. then it gets serious! God I love college football.
I would be equally pumped to get Notre Dame at Neyland.
But if we can beat Georgia this weekend we’ll be shooting for a much better seed.
I do not see Georgia on this list.
Rent free.
If we beat Georgia we will probably drop out of the rankings all together. The playoff rankings are a joke.
WHY IS LOUISVILLE RANKED ABOVE SOUTH CAROLINA
Don’t worry about it. If the Cocks win out, the rankings will fix themselves.
There’s no reasonable justification for having Penn State at no. 4 and Indiana at no. 5. They have not beaten anyone of note and should not be in the top 5.
Louisville above SC is a criminal act
