Greg Sankey clarifies future scheduling plans between SEC, Big Ten programs
Ole Miss and LSU should play annually under a 3-6-6 set up. Same with Tennessee and Vandy.
And based on pre-season rankings that game this year might well have been Mississippi State vs. Indiana-which wouldn’t have resulted in a loss for the Hoosiers.
Napier has next year. SEC schedule is the same-the sites flip. Has Miami on the road. Can FSU be as bad as they were this year? Doubtful. USF replaces USF and a different FCS sacrificial lamb at home. In other words barring a miracle he’s gone after next year. Presumably Kiffin will still be available then.
Rain is less of a factor than wind-although it looks like the storm’s winds will be pretty much gone by landfall.
Put Ole Miss in there if they win Saturday-because the Rebels probably don’t lose at Florida and definitely pound State.
Absolutely true. This why a 2 loss Penn State or Notre Dame could both get in over a 1 loss Indiana. The Irish have a national following. PSU is literally the only program in the Northeast with a large fan base. Indiana? Basketball school.
I think there will be 4 SEC playoff teams. 12 teams. 4 are other conference champs (Let’s say Oregon, Miami, Iowa St. and Boise St.). 2 others from the BIG (OSU & PSU; Indiana can only afford 1 loss to get in.). 1 other from ACC (Clemson at Pitt winner?). Notre Dame if they run the table; otherwise a 2nd Big 12 team. That leaves 4 spots for the SEC.
I’ve watched enough football this season to see that the SEC and Big Ten are clearly above the other 2 “Power” conferences. Plus the committee will consider TV ratings. Other than Notre Dame all of the teams with large fan bases reside in the “Big 2”.
College Station to Los Angeles is not a long flight. State College to LA is. Seriously a longer runway is needed at the airport. Part of PSU joining the Big Ten in the early 90s was lengthening the runways. Apparently they didn’t finish the job. But Game Week is not the time to complain about that.
Funding and NIL concerns at Pitt stem from a poor fan base. Pitt only sells out at home when playing Notre Dame, Penn State or West Virginia. All 3 of those teams’ fans are a large percentage of the fans whenever they play at Pitt. “Heinz” is generally half-empty for other Pitt opponents.
The Iron Bowl will be a test. But if the Tide gets to the SEC Championship Game they have a shot-especially if Kirby keeps playing Stetson at QB.
