Auburn History

Auburn started playing football in 1892 and has had some extremely high highs over the years. The Tigers claim 2 national championships in their history — 1957 and 2010.

Even when Alabama was a juggernaut under Nick Saban, the Tigers were the team that gave his Crimson Tide squads the most trouble. Now led by Hugh Freeze, Auburn is looking to make a move back toward the top of a very talented SEC.

Auburn boasts 3 Heisman Trophy winners over the years — Pat Sullivan in 1971, Bo Jackson in 1985 and Cam Newton in 2010. Newton was the driving force behind the 2010 title run and is one of the best players in the storied history of the SEC.

The Tigers also have an impressive record of producing the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft. Newton and Jackson were both chosen first overall in 2011 and 1986, respectively. Aundray Bruce was the first pick in 1988 and Tucker Frederickson was the No. 1 selection in 1965.
