Missouri History

The Missouri Tigers first played football in 1890, making them the second-oldest SEC football team behind Kentucky. The Wildcats first hit the gridiron in 1881. The Vanderbilt Commodores are tied with Missouri, having started their program in 1890 as well.

Of course, the Tigers spent much of their history as members of the Big 8 and, eventually, the Big 12 Conference. Mizzou didn’t officially join the SEC until the 2012 season.

After a rough first year in the SEC, the Tigers won the SEC East in 2013 and 2014 before losing the SEC Championship Game to Auburn and Alabama, respectively.

The Mizzou program has experienced some major highs over the years, including unclaimed national titles in 1960 and 2007. There have also been some very low lows since the program began.

Eli Drinkwitz is doing his best to coach the Tigers through another run of prosperity after taking over in 2020.
