Ole Miss History

Ole Miss football began in 1893 as the first football program in the state of Mississippi. (Rival Mississippi State started its program 2 years later in 1895.)

The Rebels were a founding member of the SEC in 1932. Over the years, they’ve won 3 national titles, in 1959, 1960 and 1962. They’ve won the SEC title 6 times, most recently in 1963.

Ole Miss has never had a Heisman Trophy winner, but did produce a No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick. That was Eli Manning back in 2004. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers, but didn’t want to play for them, so a draft night trade sent him to the New York Giants, with the Chargers landing Philip Rivers. Manning then went on to win 2 Super Bowls with the Giants.
