SEC Network host calls for change to CFP selection committee
SEC Network host Peter Burns does not like the way the College Football Playoff selection committee is currently assembled. The 2nd committee rankings of 2024 were released on Tuesday night, so media members and fans are naturally discussing the CFP process.
Unlike prior years, where only 4 teams were selected to make the CFP, the committee now has to choose 12. The committee is currently made up of 6 sitting ADs, 4 former head coaches, 2 former players, and 1 college professor.
Burns took to social media to declare that no sitting AD should be on the committee.
“There should NEVER be a person that’s currently involved in college athletics on any level sit on the CFB Playoff selection committee,” wrote Burns. “No sitting ADs should ever be a part of a process that involves subjective analysis.”

Many agreed with Burns’ sentiment, while others pointed out that other postseason tournaments, such as March Madness, are also selected by current college administrators.
The hope is that the committee members put aside any biases and select the best teams possible. Of course, any time there is a human element to something, the results will have some form of bias.
The latest CFP rankings had the same teams in the top 2 spots, with Oregon and Ohio State staying steady. However, Georgia went from No. 3 to No. 12 and Miami (FL) went from No. 4 to No. 9.
