Greg McElroy gives key trends, prediction for Tennessee-Georgia game
Greg McElroy likes Georgia in Saturday’s showdown in Sanford Stadium against the visiting Tennessee Volunteers, but he does not see the Bulldogs covering the spread. And it is reasonable to see why, considering the Bulldogs hardly have the best track record against it this season.
As a matter of fact, Georgia is one of the worst teams in all of college football against the spread in 2024. For betting purposes, it is smart to favor Tennessee here, though not outright in the analyst’s eyes.
“Georgia is 1-7 against the spread as a favorite this year, that’s the 2nd-worst in FBS this year. Arizona is 0-5, they’re the only one that’s worse,” he said. “Tennessee is 3-0 ATS against ranked teams this season, 2nd-best in the FBS… Georgia, however, is 5-0 ATS against Tennessee since 2019.”
One of Georgia’s biggest issues this season has been a slow start and leaving too many points on the table. Such has been the case since the first game of the year against the Clemson Tigers.
“Too many points given up, way too many points… I think Tennessee’s defense is going to completely hold this Georgia offense in check,” McElroy continued. “I think this thing is going to look a lot more like the Kentucky game… I’ll take Georgia but it’s purely because of desperation.”

Regardless of how close this contest is, who covers the spread, and things of this nature, there is no question this will be one of the biggest games of the season where College Football Playoff implications are concerned with Tennessee ranked at No. 7 and Georgia ranked at No. 12 currently.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET in Sanford Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Let’s fn go!
“Georgia is 1-7 against the spread as a favorite this year, that’s the 2nd-worst in FBS this year.
“Tennessee is 3-0 ATS against ranked teams this season, 2nd-best in the FBS…
It’s not going to get any clearer. One coach does less with more and one coach does more with less.
Rent free.
Regardless, Coach Pigpen will be losing yet again on Saturday night while Kirby racks up yet another win against the Purina Nation. Tennessee is a great team to help out your win/loss record every year!
You will lose.

haha.
Yeah, sorry.
This site is squirrelly.
Seriously, though, should be a great game.
Great weekend of CFB coming up. /cheers
Yeah hopefully a good game. This is another one of those believe it when I see it games
Some talkers want AL and GA to stay on top but in a football season 3 months of contests, everybody with NIL, the conference game outcomes are probably going to drift some from year to year …. If not swing big. I think each coaching staff has some challenges to deal with so imo either one of these games plans could come up short, and we should ask ourselves, with the possible games left, what are the worst mathematical outcomes our conference could show to bowl pickers?
wolfman. multiply by X and then by Pi (3.14….)
So OOGLY won’t have their best RB, and their QB is “shaky” on offense…but the Vols are the ones gonna get stomped? Guess that is why they play the game, right?
SUX this will all be over so soon – we wait SO LONG, and then whoosh! the season flies by seemingly overnight.
Depends on your definition of stomped. Although I haven’t seen that phrase used in regards to this game.
Everyone is banged up. and yes, that’s why they play the game. Should be a great one. Looking forward to it.
Yes, it goes by too soon.
Go Dawgs.
Multiple O-linemen out or banged up. Down to a freshman RB who was pulled after fumbling twice against Ole Miss. A dysfunctional WR room, receivers who sometimes run routes and can catch the ball, when they fell like it. A TE who was supposed to be a lock for the NFL who is yet to show up this season. Another TE who catches everything thrown his way and we target him maybe 1-2-3 times a game. A QB that dolls up like an extra for a Vikings movie, then nut ups and loses his cookies on the field, then chills on the sideline and hams it up with his homies …
Maybe the defense will show up like they did against Clemson, the 2nd half of the Bama game and the Texas game and UGA will win despite Bobo and his keystone cops troupe. There’s a reason why we say In Kirby We Trust.
However, I’d bet my money on NVDA beating expectations next week, much safer bet
Kirby Smart is the new NCAA head coach GOAT. When he first got the job, he had wonderful assistant coaches. It culminated with Dan Lanning as the DC and Todd Monken as the OC. Since then, it has gone downhill. The popular and charismatic Scott Cochran left at the end of 2023, and the excellent motivator Will Muschamp left prior to the 2024 season. Now, we are left with mediocrity at best. This year’s assistant coaches are not charismatic or high energy. Bobo coaches from the upper level analyst box while it is obvious that Schumann was helped immensely by Muschamp and Lanning. The newer assistants are all steps below their predecessors with a couple of exceptions. Smart’s success has been his own enemy as his assistants have been poached as head coaches elsewhere. He compounds the problem, however, by hiring his friends and family instead of proven performers. If he continues, UGA could well sink into mediocrity again in spite of elite recruiting classes. Smart needs to shake up the staff significantly at the end of this season. He needs to spend what it takes to get the best OC and DC in the nation for a start.
