Mississippi State doesn’t need any added obstacles in a lost season that has the Bulldogs sitting at 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the SEC as the final Saturday of October approaches.

But according to CBS Sports and 247Sports, another obstacle is exactly what the Bulldogs are getting in Week 9 as they prepare to host Arkansas. Mississippi State is now expected to be without star freshman wideout Mario Craver because of a lower-body injury.

The diminutive 5-foot-10, 170-pound Craver has played big for the Bulldogs this season. He ranks 2nd in the SEC in yards per catch with a 22.2 average and is 2nd among SEC freshman receivers with 355 yards, which is also 2nd on the team. The Birmingham product has been mighty impressive in his 1st season in Starkville but will now have to sit and watch as Mississippi State tries again to get its 1st SEC victory.

Craver has 16 catches this season, with 3 of them being for touchdowns. His ability to stretch the field has been huge for the Bulldogs. Among Craver’s catches is a 72-yard grab against mighty Georgia on Oct. 12. He also has catches for 54, 46 and 45 yards this season.

Craver had a season-high 5 catches in last week’s loss to Texas A&M, so he was just starting to get going before being bit by the injury bug.
