Florida will celebrate a Gator Great on Saturday before he is honored as an SEC Legend in December. Rex Grossman has been named the honorary Mr. Two Bits for Florida’s rivalry meeting with LSU.

Grossman, 44, was at UF from 1999 to 2002. After redshirting, he played in Steve Spurrier’s final 2 seasons (2000, ’01) and the first year (2002) of Ron Zook’s tenure. Grossman is among the top UF quarterbacks all-time in completions (677, 4th), attempts (1,110, 5th), yards (9,164, 5th) and touchdowns (77, 4th).

“The experience of playing for the Gators means everything in the world to me,” Grossman told Chris Harry of FloridaGators.com. “I had the best time of my life in that era. Being able to get on the field and make things happen was the most exciting thing ever, especially coming from high school in Indiana where I played in front of 2,000 to playing in front of 90,000 on national TV. Dream come true. And now I get to come back and take it all in again.”

It’s fitting that the Gators would call on Grossman against the Tigers. One of Grossman’s top performances of his Florida career came on the road at LSU in 2001. In a 44-15 thumping of Nick Saban’s Tigers, Grossman was 22-of-32 for 464 yards and 5 touchdowns with just 1 interception.

Florida-LSU is set for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff in Gainesville. Grossman will represent the Gators again in December at the SEC Championship Game when he is recognized as part of the SEC Legends Class.
