Billy Napier provides midweek update on QB DJ Lagway ahead of LSU game
Billy Napier provided an update on Florida’s star quarterback DJ Lagway (hamstring) on Wednesday ahead of the weekend’s matchup against No. 21 LSU. It wasn’t exactly a descriptive one.
The quarterback was held out of the team’s latest matchup against the Texas Longhorns, which Florida lost, 49-17. It sounded like Lagway was close to being back based on the way Napier spoke about the quarterback during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference preceding the game against Texas.
“DJ (Lagway) continues to improve,” Napier said when asked about the progress Lagway has made. “We’ve seen progress every day. We continue to trend in the right direction.”
Florida coach Billy Napier on injured QB DJ Lagway: DJ continues to improve. We've seen progress every day. We continue to trend in the right direction.

“I think he’s trying,” Napier said at the time. “He wants to try to find a pathway to make this work. It’s touch and go. Look, the guy’s giving it his best shot. We’ll see where we’re at in the league. There’s no secret to it anymore. You guys will have a good idea where we’re at when we approach kickoff.”
Florida and LSU are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET in The Swamp on Saturday. The Tigers come off of an embarrassing loss of their own after they fell 42-13 to No. 9-ranked Alabama, essentially ruining any chances they had left of making it into the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff.
With a vote of confidence recently placed in Napier by athletic director Scott Stricklin, it will be interesting to watch how he makes the most of an opportunity against a shaky LSU team.
Wuzzup Leghumper?
Wuzzup StLGator?
This update does not sound encouraging.
Sometimes football coaches say such stupid things that one wonders what in the world is wrong with them.
Not everyone can have Saban’s savvy when reporters ask redundant questions ;)
I hope so, but it’s best not to rush that type of injury even when classified as mild-moderate. If he’s good to go, it should only be based on physician’s recommendation. Duh.
Agreed! He doesn’t need an injury that lingers and affects his performance.
As much as I want UF to beat LSU if Lagway is not ready it would be stupid to throw him out there. Again its not like we are in contention for anything right now
RealCo, the only thing that is important is recruiting and a bowl game. Both are dependent on Lagway playing or not. But, you are correct that we are not playing for the usual importance of past seasons.
Yes the bowl game is dependent on Lagway playing because if he doesn’t play we won’t make it to a bowl game and recruiting is also dependent on Lagway because right now with all the losing Lagway is what we have to sell to the recruits.
Lagway has saved Napier’s behind so far
