3 takeaways from Arkansas' offensive clinic, win over Mississippi State
Arkansas football jumped to a 41-10 lead and coasted to its 5th win of the season Saturday afternoon against Mississippi State in Starkville. It goes down as a 58-25 win for Sam Pittman and Co.
Taylen Green was the star of the show. The Boise State transfer had about as strong a first half as you can muster and finished Saturday’s contest with 6 total touchdowns, 5 passing. Mississippi State made a late push once the Razorbacks defense was tired, but the final score doesn’t do this one justice – the Razorbacks offense was just dominant Saturday.
Arkansas now looks ahead to Week 10 against Ole Miss, which struggled in its win over Oklahoma this afternoon. Here are 3 takeaways from Arkansas’ offensive clinic against Mississippi State.
Taylen Green was an electric factory against a bad MSU defense
Taylen Green was the best player on the field Saturday, and it wasn’t particularly close. Arkansas’ quarterback accounted for 6 total touchdowns, 5 passing and 1 rushing, while looking like he wasn’t breaking a sweat.
Green set the tone for the day with his lone rushing touchdown. He practically juked this defender out of his cleats before walking in for 6… with help from some excellent blocking near the sideline.
Taylen Green just juked a Mississippi State defender out of his soul
Arkansas off to a great start, 7-0 less than two minutes into the game

Green had a tendency to be a bit erratic at Boise State, and in certain respects that trait has carried over to the SEC. However, in this game especially, he looked much calmer. That showed on the field Saturday.
Green made some truly spectacular throws in this game, such as this TD to Jordan Anthony for 6:

Green finished his day 23/29 for 314 yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception. Not a bad day at the office.
Andreas Paaske joins in on the fun
A pair of those touchdown passes were hauled in by blocking tight end Andreas Paaske out of Copenhagen, Denmark. Prior to this game Paaske had totaled just 4 receptions for 39 yards. In Week 9 Paaske found the end zone twice on 3 receptions.
Red Zone monster?

Razorbacks struggled heavily on 3rd down
Arkansas had a fantastic day on offense, perhaps aided by the fact that Mississippi State ranks 122nd in the country in total defense so far this season. The Razorbacks totaled just over 650 yards of offense on the day in a balanced attack.
There was one area where Arkansas struggled heavily: 3rd down. Sam Pittman’s club went 0-6 in these crucial situations, though it’s worth noting they were 2-2 on 4th down.
Now, the fact that Arkansas only attempted 6 3rd downs all day is telling, too. The Razorbacks were moving the ball so effectively that they moved the chains early on 1st or 2nd down in most instances.
Mississippi state has a terrible, terrible defense.
No respect for Arkansas’ offense. Put more points on this team than Texas, Georgia, and A&M! Woo Pig!
I made the mistake of picking Miss State. Apologies to Arkansas.
Well I did too. But seeing the Hogs blown out at home by LSU and seeing MSU in their last two games I thought they were going to grab a home conference win. Easy mistake to make. And the Dogs kept handing them gifts. Not even just the turnovers. I believe Dogs were at the one yard line, didn’t score. Let’s see what the Hogs do at home against Ole Miss’ defense.
Oh, and again at the half yard line I’m told..and didn’t get in.
Congrats to Arkansas. They played well. They are just one win short of bowl eligibility. That’s impressive based off preseason expectations.
Turnovers is what has killed us. When we hang onto the ball we are a good football team.
Hope ya’ll give atm a good thumpin
It’ll be their own fault if they don’t. They have a bad Louisiana Tech later.
Nice win Hogs! WPS
It’s worse than I thought. It’s nonexistent.
I think Arkansas is a little better than they get credit for too.
Can fans enter the transfer portal? I’m hoping to get picked up by Vandy in the portal.
Congrats to Arkansas on the win. It makes me feel a little better about UT losing to you. Good luck the rest of the season.
If Hogs beat Ole Miss you’ll feel even better. I still don’t feel good about the Vandy lost, who could. But that ain’t the Vandy we’re all use to seeing either.
This what it looks like when your own defense, the refs, and just luck all gangtankle you. Alone, I somewhat understand each of the touchdowns that didn’t count, but THREE. While the first one was going to stay whatever they called on the field, the other two were bullsnot. That pf was just stupidity, too, senior should know better. Arkansas ball came loose 5 times, twice it went right out but 0 FR. 3/4 of greens completions were to blatantly open receivers. Our dc is awful, still. But still better than SDS.
The first “non-TD” I was amazed that they didn’t call it a TD. The other two could have gone either way, but like you said, it would have been hard to overturn with the review, but that first one SHOULD have been a TD.
I mean we still lose this game, but three times in the same game!!! shouldve been more 45 to 35 ish. Maybe ARK gets 52. We are swiss cheese, no disrespect to the qb, he was good, but the few times he didn’t have someone open he had all day. 2/3 of his throw were pitch and catch, his receivers were WIDE open. I don’t understand how we can bow up against the run on a regular basis now and still not get pressure ever on a pass play. We did not bow up long in this game 179 frickin yards. Thats a big back
Miss State put 471 yards of offense with a freshman QB. Veteran Jaxon Dart and Ole Miss will carve that weak Arkansas secondary up much like Nuss and LSU did. Dogs could’ve had 21 more points on the board. Nice job beating the worst team in the conference. 1 game away from making a bowl game which is all Arkansas will ever play for.
Ok buddy…….
Haha. Pasty pink leprechaun say so. haha
Easy win when y’all be buying new tesla for the referees. Got your uncle LDS Tom quarterback from up there in Utah. May as well get bill Cosby outta jail let him throw the football.
